Jessica Jones

Post by Evolver » Mon Nov 23, 2015 5:08 pm

I binged the entire season this weekend.

It has a similar darkness to it as "Daredevil" did, but was even better.

Spoiler:
A Marvel adaptation with anal sex. Who would have thunk it. But still, ewwwww.

I'm only on ep 4...loving it so far. I probably will not finish it up until the Thanksgiving holiday. Your spoiler will have to go un-clicked until then.

I know I'm only 4 in, but I'm already comparing it to shows like Breaking Bad and GoT. I haven't liked a fem-concentric show this much since Veronica Mars. It even has a lot in common with it, except Veronica is Gia and Gia has superpowers.

It's not much of a spoiler. You've already seen what I referred to.

On E2 now. Not sure what to think of this yet. Jessica is pretty strong but the writing lacks a bit. She's interesting but the story is a bit slow.

Glacial and incoherent. Seems like one of those things that thinks being obscure is art.

Someone may be in for a nut kick.

We shall see.

Yeah it gets pretty intense later in. I found myself alternatively rooting for her and wanting to smack her for idiocy. But it's a good show if I care that much.

She wore the same pair of jeans for all 13 episodes. Just thought I'd point that out.

I binged watched the entire second season.

There were things I liked and things I didn't.
Spoiler:
Trish is very obviously Miley Cyrus. She was the stereotypical best buddy in Season 1 and spent the whole season getting shit upon by Jessica. Well, in Season 2, it was Trish's turn to shit upon Jessica. Trish is a self-absorbed super hero wanna-be, a drug addict, and a really shitty friend in Season 2. Her mother is the stereotypical stage mom. I hate both characters and want to see them go away.

Trish's neighbor buddy from Season 1 seemed pretty cool, but in Season 2, he's a whiny bitch, and a wanna-be detective.

The who lesbian lawyer story arc just didn't belong. Seemed like it was there just as an excuse to show Carrie Ann Moss as a powerful lesbian lawyer doing lesbian things.

The whole villain story-line was interesting, but predictable once it was revealed who the villain was. To be fair, I'm sure it's difficult to write a worthy foe for Jessica. Has to be someone powerful, but not overpowered.

Too much smooching and drinking in Season 2.

I missed Killgrave. It was nice to see him as a voice in Jessica's head and a hallucination.
I liked Jessica Jones and the actress who plays her, but the 2nd season lacked likable supporting characters. If they make a season 3, I'm hoping they find better allies and enemies for Jessica.
Such potential!

Tennant is a tough act to follow.

Kind of like how the "Highlander" franchise never came up with an adversary more entertaining than Kurgan.

That said, I like her style and her closest two friends. They're enough to carry the show for me so far.

I am halfway through Season 2 right now. But I can't help but notice that the actress who plays Jessica has a penchant for playing mean, bitchy characters. Her big break was as the titular "B in Apartment 23" and Chani was watching some old Gilmore Girls episodes a few weeks ago and I noticed she was in a minor role as a mean bitchy college student.

Apparently she's just the opposite in person.

That is often the case with actors who are known for playing a certain type, especially if that type is villainous or obnoxious or otherwise unpleasant.

She was Gia in Veronica Mars (which I highly recommend if you haven't seen) and she played a ...mean bitchy high school girl, as I recall.

She was Jessie's girl in Breaking Bad.

Where can I find a woman like that?
