Not rock and roll just yet -- needs its own thread.

Postby Abdul Alhazred » Mon Jun 19, 2017 12:59 am

Actually contains "rock and roll" in the lyric but not rock and roll just yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z981SGlPVNY

#1 on the "rhythm and blues" chart.

I'll be adding to the collection from time to time.

Fuck you ed, you filthy old scrounger! There's a lot of great 50's music, except for Pelvis of course. Good song Abdul.
"It is not I who is mad! It is I who is crazy!" -- Ren Hoek

"[... it seems most strange that... ] the Creator of Heaven and Earth resorted to the womb of a certain Jewish lady, grew there for nine months and was born as an infant, and afterwards grew up and was betrayed into the hands of his enemies who sentenced him to death and executed him, and that afterwards... he came to life and returned to his original place. The mind of a Jew, or any other person, simply cannot tolerate these assertions. If you have listened all your life to the priests who have filled your brain and the marrow of your bones with this doctrine, and it has settled into you because of that accustomed habit. [I would argue that if you were hearing these ideas for the first time, now, as a grown adult], you would never have accepted them." -- Rabbi Moses ben Nahman, defending the Talmud at the Disputation of Barcelona, July 1263.

They use that song in one of the latest Fallout game. Now I want to play Fallout, dammit. This is my favorite old song they use in that game...

The whole Fallout series (From Fallout 3 onward anyway; earlier versions were a somewhat different kind of game) has great music. Most of it seems to be from before the 1950s. A few songs might be later than that, but most of it seems to be 1940s music. Anyway, my 15-year-old son really likes it, as does my waifu.

Anyway, if you want some nostalgia, it's not a bad way to relive it. (There may be some overlap)

Nyar is missing the point about "pre-rock".

Don't get me wrong, I like Dino.

But he's not a precursor to rock and roll.

By way of apology, here is Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Widely considered one of the most influential, but unheralded, pre-rock rock musicians

I was looking for her last night, but forgot her last name.

I will listen tonight. :coolspecs:

Next time someone starts something about who was the best rock guitarist, McCartney or Hendrix, the answer is Sister Rosetta.

I only knew it because I started work on a story about a cursed blues song, during my research into blues music of the era my story was set in, her name came up a lot.

I ended up going with what I know and changing it to a cursed movie instead, though. Recent events kind of put the damper on my enthusiasm as far as working on it though. But that's neither here nor there.

Everybody knows Chuck Berry invented rock & roll music by plagiarizing himself after listening to a cover band from an alternate timeline.

Also apparently the Australians invented it around that time too, along with relativity and carbonated beer.

Chuck Berry may well have been the first to market some especially jazzy R&B using the expression "rock and roll" .
