A nice short piece.

I love that this instrument exists. 8)

↑ That was fun (but I think the Italians pronounce kitarrone, not tshitarrone)!

If somebody's interested (?!?), timeline of the instrument: http://www.tiorba.eu/timeline.html (lots of pics).

And a nice piece (crappy video):

The saying was that "lutenists spend half their time tuning their instrument, and the rest playing out of tune", so there is historical precedent. (And as a pedantic aside: as there was no Nylon for the strings, which were made of various animal guts, expensive lutes were often kept in the player's bed for warmth & humidity – "many a fine instrument has been ruined by somebody jumping on a bed", &c.)

But… it doesn't sound out of tune to my ears. Perhaps it's the dissonant (diminished, I'd say) chords which gave you this impression. I don't know which passacaille he plays so can't check, but that's clearly not the pop music harmony our ears are stuffed with now.

How about some very tame Weiss (greatly admired by Bach) music?

(The video's aesthetics haven't aged well, alas.)

I'm sure everyone has heard this song before. You might not have seen this particular video though. A nice performance.

(Never heard a glissando done on a recorder! )

That Paetzold Bass Recorder looks like a cool woodworking project.

But any orchestra that has that must have

The bowed psaltery is so very much more interesting but--like the glass harmonica--it really gets on my nerves.
