Larry Niven :p

One of my favorites. His prose is a bit dry, but he still tells an interesting story

But he was, like, really a sexist. Right?

Never heard anyone ever talk about gender politics in his books. My take is that he was neither particularly sexist nor particularly non-sexist. I do wonder how certain segments of our society would take the fact that in his book the Kzin literally bred the sentience out of their females. Some would see that as MRA/Alt-right utopia. On the other hand, it was portrayed as evidences that the Kzin were basically backwards savages who happened to have spaceships and not a thing to be lionized (see what i did there?). On the other other hand, I am not sure that the second fact would matter to that same segment of society.

I am more of a fan of his short stories. To me, Ringworld was like an extended travelogue. Like someone's vacation photos in book form.

My favorite full length novel of his is Dream Park

Never "heard" such a thing on the 'net, only from someone I know personally. This was some time ago when Niven's stuff was new. Back then I still had conversations with humans and not just you 'bots.

Because Gil Hamilton acts like a 1950s hard boiled detective, even though it's however far in the future.

I assumed the 'Noir in Spaaaaaaace' schtick was intentional in exactly the same way that Firefly tried to be a 'Western in Spaaaaaaace'

I have always meant to read him but never have. Allegedly, his work was a big influence on Gary Gygax when he was creating D&D.

Report me. Go on, try it.

One of you boys reported this post. I had to get up off the veranda and set down my cold drink. There's a country mile of road out there to be tarred and cindered...truck'll be backin' up momentarily!

2010 sucked.

Really badly.

But... the man had his moments...
Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

Yeah it did. 2011 did too. And 2012. All the way up to 2017 which so far sucks monumentally.

2018 isn't looking so good either

Well, you can all feel better getting your dirt outta Boss Kean's ditch!

Except for Asthmatic. He got fried balls. Don't have to worry about him running with them!

Ain't no fighting here. Ed just needs to get outta the way of my shovel faster.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"
