This may be old news, but I just saw 'Alien Covenant' on HBO.

The Japanese Korean Horror Stories.

Homage to Your Hammer Vignette with a nice set-up: a mute serial killer captures a girl who stays alive by telling horror stories to him. Nicely done.
Girl is to marry Super Hot Plastic Surgeon. Her Step Mother wants her own daughter to replace her. That daughter has plastic surgery to look more like Girl.

Too bad Super Hot actually eats his wives. . . . They should have wondered why he had six prior.

Too bad the Girl does not know this either when she tries to stop her step-sister. . . .

The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix.

It's decent. 4 episodes in.

Another recent thing on Netflix is "The Chilling tales of Sabrina" but she seems to be more concerned with fighting "The Patriarchy" than ghosts or demons. It's more campy than scary. Would not recommend this unless that sounds your your cup of tea. Only saw the first episode of this one.

Afraid to watch that, bitter disappointment after that crappy remake. You ever read the book? Shirly Jones, worth a look.

Dare I add The Homesman here?

Oh, I see Doc specified Horror not Horrible. Sorry.

Never read the book. I think it only bears a passing resemblance to the book at best. The book was written in 1959, but the Netflix version is very much set in the present day. They have the latest iPhones.

But it's decent horror without politics I think. Not like the other one.

The Houses October Built: A decent horror story. Not perfect, but good. The plot is actually plausible which is a plus.

The Houses October Built 2: an vapid and boring movie where very little actually happens until the third act. Yet it still manages to LITERALLY diminish the first movie and make it stupid. A rare feat

It bears as much resemblance to the book as I do to Hugh Jackman.

I liked neither of them

I write a blog on horror movies these days. If you are interested, shoot me a message and I will give you the address. I would just post it here, but I have my reasons not to.

Neither are best picture contenders, and both are different types of horror (supernatural creepy versus being lower than comfortable in the food chain) but I liked:

As above, so below

47 meters down

I'd probably class them as guilty pleasures that happened to click with me, rather than good movies though

Yeah.

I am a sucker for movies with just enough of a "real" history vibe to get me hooked.
