Usually, the QB will catch the defense trying to make a substitution and snap the ball--basically getting a free play. Brady did that near the end--though you do not get the time back. The asinine 12 men on the field that erased the stripping of the ball by Sterling "Fuck You, I Showed Up!" Moore was absolute stupidity--they were all in a formation. Someone fucked up big time.

Similarly the much rarer 12 men in the huddle for the Giants. That was a fuck up but not nearly as costly.

So you are telling me that the number 12 actually did figure into the game?

I wasn't able to watch myself because of the time difference. It's monday morning here when it's sunday afternoon there.

In baseball you have relatively few substitutions and once a player has been substituted for he can't come back into the game. In football they can and do send out different players for every play.

Thanks and hat tip to Doctor X.

Fun to win the pool, but I was screaming for a Pats win all night. No one brought their A game it seemed.

Not only did the safety hint at a bad night for Brady, it also fucked me in a $50 squares pool. I had 7-7! That dream died early. It got worse at halftime, when I realized I was watching a Madonna/Cirque du Soliel tag team event. Most of the y-chromosomes in my body were severely damaged. But a couple Postcards from Paradise should make me right.

Thanks to Doc X for doing the thankless work.

Might I suggest The Usual Suspects for next season?

I blame Brady. He played badly, and as I indicated to a number of people--who felt they should convince me that "if you had a healthy Gronk"--Gronk did not screw up the safety. Now I think it was a bullshit call, but I can understand why it was called. Do not put yourself in that position. Worse, Gronk did not throw the stupid interception. Period. Now, Welker dropping a catchable ball, Hernandez doing the same ALL represents . . .

. . . what is that word I used before?

"CHOKE"

Had Welker got or Hernandez got the 1st down, game is effectively over.

I did not consider 2008 a choke, but this clearly was. I also do not blame the D. They kept them in the game despite NO help from the offense.
Might I suggest The Usual Suspects for next season?
Good idea! I have that DVD, and I wondered what film to use. Keeping with the tradition the winner names the film, so be it!

Yes, congrats to Swellman.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Must be a recent tradition....I don't recall picking one a few years back.

Anyway, congrats Swellman... bastard...and thanks Doc for the work.

All traditions are new. I added Big Lebowski a few games ago to add to the fun. After about two years it seemed best to move on--can only do "___ Fucks You UP, Lebowski!" so many times. I think Pyrrho suggested Goodfellas, then A Clockwork Orange became obvious. Since I won last time, I forc'd upon all the glory and wonderment--a heart-warming love story--that is Sexy Beast.

I have a lot of odd movies. Not sure if I could get The Thing to work in this venue . . . Ichi the Killer might get someone a "talk with Human Resources," Oldboy might be a bit obscure. One of my all-time favorite films is The Ruling Class--not sure it adapts to the NFL, though.

I even toyed with The Venture Brothers or Invader Zim, but I am not sure everyone would "get" them.

Ah yes, I would be remiss if I did not thank Doctor X for organizing and not fixing the pool. Both take real effort and integrity. Even though sometimes the results were not correct, but that's only because he was doing it on a Mac and not a proper computer.

Unfortunately, an inability to add numbers below three digits is beyond the powers of both a PC and Mac to save.

I blame Obama.

I never listen to the commentary since it tends to be stupid. There was no brilliance in "time management." There was dropped passes by the Patriots. Sort of like crediting the 86 Mets for the inability of the Red Sox bullpen to find the plate.

But . . . the Patriots were happy to enjoy a Ravens' kicker's inability to find the uprights, so there you go.
