Boston will be USOC's bid city for 2024 Olympics

The U.S. Olympic Committee is counting on Boston to do what New York and Chicago could not.

Boston was chosen over Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., on Thursday to represent the U.S. in a bid for the 2024 Olympic Games. The U.S. hasn't hosted an Olympics since the Salt Lake City Winter Games in 2002, and it has been almost 19 years since the Summer Games were here.

Glad it wasn't Chicago.

It would have been a nightmare for us local yokels.

did anyone on the selection committee even come and look that this place?
we can barely host a marathon.
the biggest lie is that all the local powers say it will be 100% privately funded.

If you don't count billions for transportation, security, and infrastructure it's all privately funded! Now, about those new totally unrelated taxes you will be getting...

lets see, 2024 - 2015 = 9 years to get the fork out of Massachusetts and into some place with no prospects for any bloodsucking sports delusions.
I can only hope that some other deluded country outbids us.

I came across this Op-Ed (by a native Bostonian apparently):

9 reasons Boston is a terrible choice to host the 2024 Summer Olympics

For those who don't live near Boston, let me give you an idea of the traffic situation.

Boston has three rings of "by-passes". During rush hour, which is actually about 9 hours long, the first two rings are at an almost dead stand-still, as are the 9 major highways leading directly into Boston. I travel on the third outer ring to get to work, which is approximately 50 miles away from the heart of Boston, and traffic slows to a crawl at every exit ramp for the highways that lead into Boston.

Not long ago, I had a business meeting in a town about 20 miles north of Boston and foolishly took the second outer by-pass to get home. My GPS said I was 50 minutes away from home. Four hours later, I vowed never to take that by-pass again.

I had a meeting at a company near MIT once. I left 2 hours early, thinking that would be plenty of time to get there and find a parking spot. I ended up being 45 minutes late due to traffic and every fucking massive parking garage being completely full except for one person that happened to be leaving on the top floor, and I just happened to be the first in line of 20 or so cars that were circling around.

And they want to hold the Olympics in this hell hole of a city.

Guess they will need to build a fourth by-pass.
Such potential!

what Bruce says. I don't drive during the day unless there's really no alternative.
Take the train or the bus. even if you get stuck somewhere at least you're not in a car.
(Providence commuter rail to South Station, Red Line to Kendall, Bruce - it's the only way).

Anax - fuck yeah. That elevated eyesore of a highway is long gone but the traffic is not better. (the Big Dig - Thank you everybody for funding it for us!)

Gram - I like California. You probably just want me to stay off the highways. Suits me.

Worse are the drivers. If it starts to rain they either think it is the apocalypse or the Earth Mother is angry. Either way, panic.

And smog.
