Moving to Las Vegas. Oh THAT'll be a clean operation, sure.

This will end badly.

There is no indigenous fan-base. Idiot Son hopes that Loyal Faider Fans will continue to support the team from a distance. He may be correct. Think these idiots:

Image

are going to travel to Los Vegas eight times a year? ~560 miles or a nearly 6 hour drive each way.

Now if they win, that creates fans.

Otherwise, there are other reasons to go to Las Vegas.

I can't speak for Oakland fans who go to the games, but all the Faider fans in LA I've spoken to love the idea. There might also be sufficient number of fans of teams Faiders will play who live in the western sun belt and might travel to Vegas for vacation plus watch their team play. I don't think it's a clear-cut disaster.

It is true that an owner has to try very, very, very hard to lose money.

I guess the big question is if Las Vegas will build them a new stadium.

Well, all the hotels in Clark County (where Vegas is) are getting taxed extra to pay for this new Stadium. Big ol' controversy about that going through the legisture recently. Our state legislature normally meets only in odd numbered years and they even called an 'emergency' session of it last year to get the tax approved. So they have to build something because they can't just move the money to another purpose. Also, I know several of the big casinos were all for it, so that is another point in favor of it actually being built.

Personally, I was against it even though this extra tax doesn't affect me directly (maybe indirectly if it drops tourism revenue to the state as a whole, but I doubt it will) because I am against corporate welfare for sports teams. But the tax went through the legislature anyway.

Also, I was just reading that they are in the process of acquiring the land for it and expect to break ground later this year.

So I don't think whether it will be built is a question at this point.

Didn't know the meaning of that word (man lernt nie aus). There was a troubadour, renowned in his time, from that region: Gaucelm Faidit (I presume Gaucelm is a variant of Anselm, Frankish for god + helmet/protection); the daredevils can listen to his (reconstructed) music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=264RDeAJgPI.

I must sheepishly admit that the main reason that I knew that is because I used to be a huge fan of a game called Ars Magica and it, by default, is set in the Languedoc region of France during the Albigenesean heresy and it is a weird combination of fantasy mixed with strict historical accuracy. Which in turn encourages people like me to read a lot on the historical basis of the game.

Also, thanks for that link. I love listening to that sort of stuff

↑ You're welcome. Knowledge is a river with many sources (add weak pun about "floating your boat").

You'll probably like Oswald von Wolkenstein, another medieval adventurer. (And it's in a language very similar to what I learned as a kid. :) )
He wrote a fantastic song about spring, with birdsong imitation, but it's difficult music so I couldn't find a good version. :(

Remind me.

In which game is that a "playable race"?

Well, considering they were dispossed 13th century French knights, that would make them humans so the answer would be nearly all of them (except for Kobolds ate my Baby, where you play a kobold). If you actually meant "class" (D&D sounds so Marxist sometimes), then the only game where I can think of where you could play that would be the aforementioned Ars Magica because thats the only one I know that focuses on that particular time and place, and perhaps The Doctor Who RPG (Or any other time travel based game). THough you could probably make a roughly analogous character in any game with a medieval or quasi-medieval setting

I can't speak for Las Vegas, but here in Northern Nevada, we have a lot of Raiders fans.
