Regrettably, effective science
education in our schools is being undermined by efforts to introduce non-scientific concepts about evolution into science classrooms.

Most already know this well, but I nonetheless enjoyed the presentation of information. The 8 page pdf is free to download with no need to register. http://books.nap.edu/html/11876/SECbrochure.pdf

Good stuff.

Although, in the scientific realms, there really isn't any controversy. Only when the cameras are on do these tiny-minded wipers of other people's bottoms come out of the woodwork.

Oh, give credit where credit is due. Clarsct is quoting John Cleese from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. As if anyone on the internet didn't already know that...

Here I thought he was complimenting the oh-so-appropriate use of the phrase....

Oh yes, it was. In that case, take a bow, Sir. It was a good and witty usage.

Okay, back on track... the article outlines what is and is not science. Something that others wish to blur the lines of nowadays. I hear in Australia they have enjoyed a period where politicians are frowned on if they try to use religion as a step-up. Here in America it seems to be a requirement to be uber religious to get votes.
However, in Australia they figure far more medical woo woo is running rampant. I find that hard to believe, since ear candling and feedback machines are so common here. There's even homeopathy in all the stores now, even in baby sections here (Hyland's prodcuts, Arnica, Boiron).

A debate over whether the same kind of thinking (non-critical) makes people susceptible to medical woo woo is the same kind of thinking that makes people susceptible to religious woo woo and antiscience sentiments.

I figure it's one and the same. The lack of education in science makes everyone susceptible in believing the earth is only 6 thousand years old or belieiving magic diluted stuff can help diaper rash.

Science is poo pooed by woo woos no matter what the topic. The homeopath woo woo says science can't explain everything. The religious woo woo says science can't explain everything. Same story, same result in the end. And most people eat it up and say they don't care that SCIENCE "says" the opposite of what is claimed by woo woos.

It doesn't matter who bashes science or tries to blur the lines of science. The result is the same, meaning they get people to buy into their products.

My site links to http://www.skeptix.ca/about/skepticism.html and that's still there, so they may be in the middle of heeding my complaint about auto-starting flash with loud sound on the home page.

Or not.

The page that is showing up instead of their home page seems to be a routine fall-back page from their hosting company.
