I take requests on the telephone. I'm on a wavelength far from home.

I am assuming the missing word here is remake.

It seems the remake craze has gone from Hollywood to the music industry, of late, only it's stealthier. Our daughter was listening to music the other night and I noticed that it seemed every fourth or fifth song was a remake of a song from when I was her age (the 80's, blegh). I pointed it out to her and she didn't even realize that ANY of them were remakes.

Actually I was going to say "cover" but it's synonymous with remake.

I have not noticed that many covers, however it'll probably never be as crazy as it use to be back in the 60's where everyone and their mother put out a version of the same song.

No that version blows. There was another one, I'll see if I can find it.

And yet...

Wall Of Voodoo made their own cover of a famous song.

ETA: Oops. I didn't realize that wasn't the original video. Oh well. It is, at least, Wall Of Voodoo's version of that song.

The number of pop songs that are little sections from classical pieces sung over and over is legendary.

Yep. And the first time I heard their version of Ring of Fire was in a porno movie! Laughing

And Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in Mozart's variations on it. And Ach du lieber Augustin in Schoenberg's Second String Quartet. And L'homme arme in Dufay's Missa L'homme Arme...

That show - with David Sanborn as emcee - was way too cool for network tee vee - bastards. I remember the night I saw Todd Rundgren and Taj Mahal. Todd came back out at the end to play guitar on a Taj blues tune as the credits were rolling. Greatness.

Do not forget the worthless soundtrack from the worthless film Rumble Fish.

Stewart Copeland should be ashamed. Who do you think you are? Sting?

I dial it in and tune the station
They talk about the US inflation
I understand... just a little
No comprende, it's a riddle...

I used to love that song

I was glad when it made the top 20 demented videos on MTV (one of my favorite countdowns ever... I think they only did it once though)... of course Dr. Demento stuff was highly represented.

See your things piled up in the hall
Turn around
There's a new picture on the wall
Feet don't fail me now
We're the last ones to know
Anyone could see it's time for us to go

(now imagine giant puppet centipedes with band members' heads on them)

or..

"Why can't you be like Endicott?!"

David Thomas. He's pretty normal, at least the few times I've spoken to him. He just has a spastic singing style.

First time I saw them he was playing a hammer and small anvil as percussion and whacked himself in the thumb. Ouch!

I think that's Eric Drew Feldman on synth, too.

Thanks very much Mulebear. That was excellent.
