How many nihilists does it take to change a light bulb.

Doesn't matter, we're all going to die anyway.

I don't often read this thread, (apologies, Doc: it's a matter of time, not boredom.)

I assume that you based this on the BBC's five-minute "Thought for the Day" slot on Radio 4 and the World Sevice, normally religiously based.

Well. I had a Thought for the Day this morning.

I was brought up to be a God-Bothering Christian and although I lost my faith well over forty years ago, I lead a far more "Christian" life than many self-professed Christians do. Today, I am sore from toe to head, having done a landscaping job for my neighbour for nothing, ripping my hands to shreds in the process, managed my nightly 20-mile bike ride to see my friends at McDonalds, who are now all back in work, and took them a big tub of chocolates as a thank-you for being so kind to me over the years. I also rolled up some smokes for a few guys who are homeless, regardless of why they became that way.

Enough Blah.

You don't need religion to be a decent person.

Thank you, xouper.

Another thought I had today is that since your return, you seem to be a far less abrasive chap than you used to be: actually quite thoughtful and pleasant.

I appreciate that. You, as have I, have matured like a fine double malt in the ancient SC sherry cask. :)

We had that debate, on . . . a . . . on First Take last week about the GOAT ["Greatest of All Time" – Ed.]s of Goats, and I made it Tom Brady, you know. And of course Steven A [Smith – Ed.] went with Jordan and all of this. When since I left that set, and I want to say this, since I left that set, I can tell you how many brothers have come up to me. I have to say to them, "Listen! I wish he was black too! But the GOAT of All GOATS is that white guy, Tom Brady!"

Waters, you know what you did wrong.
– Adm. Chester Nimitz

Yes sir, I certainly do.
– Ensign Waters

That's fine, carry on.
– Adm. Nimitz
Spoiler:
From a lecture by Craig Symonds. Ensign Waters – ever nicknamed "Muddy Waters" – was given the "con" and he had a hard time getting the ship to port correctly. That was Adm. Nimitz's response. Prof. Symond notes that this was sort of an urban legend about Nimitz's approach to command. He then admitted he told the story, and a member of the audience approached him later to introduce himself as said Ensign Waters' son-in-law. As the man put it, his father-in-law first told him that story when his then girlfriend brought him "home" to meet her parents. He then claimed his father-in-law told that story every week of his life.

Remember that, before judging someone, it's important to walk a mile in their shoes. That way you can say whatever you want because you'll be a mile away and you'll have their shoes.

I normally do not read the comments to Youtube, but I happened to notice this one on the video I posted for the Past is a Foreign YOUR MOM thread:
One of my early jobs i was a waiter... and Rodney came in with a few people. He was laughing really loud and cracking jokes at his table, almost just like the Caddy Shack scene.
The owner didn't like it and told me to tell him to keep it down.
I was very young and a fan of Rodney. So i told him, "Mr. Dangerfield, please understand that this isn't how i feel, but my boss is telling me to ask you to keep it down."
He handed me a $100 bill and said "Thanks. You're a good kid. I respect you for doing your job. Now do ME a favor. Go tell your boss to grow a set of balls and come tell me himself."
Then really loud he said towards the kitchen, "Are you KIDDIN me? I'll BUY this popcorn stand and BURN IT TO THE GROUND." Then went right back to telling jokes and laughing.

He was so great and the life of the restaurant.

From a liability standpoint, I would advise against taking his brake shoes and then leaving.
