Actress Frances Barber remembered an occasion when he [Geoffrey Palmer – Ed.] had queried a residuals payment he had received for the ubiquitous commercial.

"I just called my agent and said they've put too many 0's on the cheque," she recalled him saying. "After lunch he said 'Apparently they haven't'. His face didn't change."

We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart.

[It] became a cult film, appropriately enough, down under. It did well in other countries, but not in Merrie England, where our dour-faced critics insisted on taking it seriously. How on earth can you take seriously the vision of Catherine Oxenberg, dressed in Marks & Spencer’s underwear, being sacrificed to a fake, phallic worm two hundred feet long?

“I went to the Democratic Convention as a journalist, and returned a raving beast.”

His journalism morphed into something entirely original, laced with vitriolic scorn and dripping in sarcasm—henceforth, the writer would be at the forefront of the story, outrageous and bold, like a Hemingway for the hippie era.

Boys, this is the greatest adventure in military history. Here we sit in the enemy’s country with only a handful of troops, looking down the throats of nineteen fully armed divisions and seventy million fanatics. One false move and the Alamo would look like a Sunday-school picnic!

In Queen's "Don't stop me now", Fredward Mercurial sings "100 degrees, that's why they call me Mr Fahrenheit!"

Now, call me a pendant but surely "The Merc" should have sung "100 degrees, that's why they call me Mr Centigrade." There's no syllablistic difference and 100 degrees Centigrade is a famous temperature referring to the boiling point under atmospheric elements and gravity things of water - whereas 100 degrees Fahrenheit is 37.777778 degrees C which is quite frankly, nonsense.

I cant think of a momentum/velocity related term that Centigrade might rhyme with though.

Anyone else know of songs where the singer displayed a lack of knowledge about science and its terminology?

I heard the other day, that if you spun spider webs into a strand that is as thick as a pencil, youd be able to stop a jumbo jet dead in its tracks due to the web's tensile strength.

Not only is this testament to nature's magnificence and it's incredible ability to adapt/evolve to its surroundings - it also tells us that, in order to crimp a string off, spiders have the most powerful assholes in the animal kingdom.

Not to be a, harrumph!, pendant, but you presumably know that spiders secrete their silk with glands, not their assholes, and that it comes out liquid?
