Working hard to make this a Must-Visit destination here in picturesque just west of central Florida.

Remember the Lake Ed theme song:
Bring the kids
Keep a close eye on them
Come armed
Bring Money
Don't overstay your welcome

Hey, ed! I'll say nothing about the sleazy dudes from the "Mountain Monsters" series, but for the south shore of lake ed (at night©) you could have at least used the original GIF and not a screengrab with the play incrustation:

I'll even help you out with this totally original & certified picture of the Myakka or Swamp ape:

I'll be driving through the area sometime next month. I'll throw some beef jerky (don't ask where it came from if Abdul goes missing shortly before that) in the lake to feed the critters.

Those are all far away from where I'm staying. I'm staying in Fort Myers Beach, and besides I plan on fishing every day. Probably in the 10,000 Islands area (Goodland, Everglades City, Chokoloskee) since the red tide has fucked things up in Estero Bay.

But I take it you're fine with me tossing Abdul's remains 250 lbs of "beef jerky" in Lake Ed? Gators gotta eat right?

My stocking project is proceeding.

Took delivery today of some rare, man eating crawdaddys.
https://i.postimg.cc/YjpX4FKM/Craw0.jpg
Not sure how many. These critters are so dangerous that they cannot be hand counted for fear of dismemberment. 200 maybe?

Here I have taken a risk and "fished" (see what I did there?) one out. It may look reminiscent of some of the more horrid denizens our your nether regions.
https://i.postimg.cc/bSNL47Hs/Craw1.jpg

I am now introducing the critter to his (her? Does it matter to any creature other than crawdaddys?) new world. Lake Ed
https://i.postimg.cc/7bmKSLw7/Craw2.jpg

You can see two of the newly released immigrants coming up on a lily pad to thank me for their deliverence.
https://i.postimg.cc/HVnBzCkN/craw3.jpg

I was aided by the grandchildren who were sadly unfrightened by the proceedings. They even picked them up. I am not sure that this project will have the desired outcome vis a vis mindless fear instilled in the kids. One even asked how they taste :x :x

Does this even count as captivity?

Of course they are not dangerous. Those are just the babies.
I think they'll breed (pervert). There is plenty of water for them to make a cute crustacean home. I let hundreds of feeder goldfish loose a few years ago. I only ever saw one of them after. I also stocked it with bass and other stuff ... no idea what made it.

Lets see how many are floating tomorrow.

A bit of a snag with my terraforming activities.

It seems that crayfish blend in with their surroundings. That is to say that they blend in really really well.

I have no idea where they are or if they are even there. It is as if I never did anything.

Bummer.

Abdul Alhazred wrote: Mon Apr 22, 2019 3:43 pm what is good bait for a crawdad.
Fatty meat (fresh, not rotten, contrary to popular belief), fish.
Without a dedicated trap, put the bait with some stones in a basket, immerse with a rope, add some floating device to get the rope back later (and hence the basket). After some hours, lift slowly or they will scamper away.

Note: crawfish are nocturnal and stay hidden during the day. So perhaps the first step would be to go out at night with a flashlight and try to see them. Watch out for pythons, hogs, rattlesnakes, gators and trilobites.

My granny was full of stories about how she went crawdad fishing when she was a kid: a basket with meat scraps and some stones, you just had to lift it slowly and they stayed put. Or so she said…

Well, used the crawfish/dad/daddy trap. Put about a pound of raw chicken in it, the kind that is/has turned.

Left it in overnight. Pulled it up.

Nothin, nada, zip. Completely empty. Pound of chicken gone.

A critter could not have made off with the grub... it got et. But what? Minnows? Snakes?

This is like the beginning of a crappy horror flick.

Thoughts? Refer to the picture of the trap, above.

In maybe 4-6 feet of murky, scary water(?).
