Many years ago, I had some vague thoughts about going into clinical psychology. As part of my investigation I took a course that took me to Creedmoor State Hospital on Long Island, NY. (n.b. this was the site of the "Creedmoor" rife matches back in the day, expended bullets still show up there). Anyhoo, the "residents" of this fine institution could only be described as "vague". They walked around with a smile flicking on their lips, not terribly purposefully. They didn't communicate much, when they did it was ... vague, halting. Very pleasant, mind, just vague. Ocassionally there would be a flash of anger when some minor event irritated one of them.

Everything was for the best, everything was fine.

I really did not like the notion of so called "mental health professionals" offering their 2p about Trumps mental state. I thought that it was inappropriate. I won't offer an opinion of Biden's mental state.

Suffice it to say that as far as this question goes, the answer is "it isn't his". It looks like government by committee.

I'd give it a 3, provisionally.

Anything can be a salad.

Potato + mayonnaise = potato salad
Egg + macaroni + mayonnaise = egg salad
Meat + corn chips + sour cream + guacamole = taco salad.

Looks like this guy invented the triple meat burger salad.

As a fellow Christian, ed, can you explain why an atheist in the local paper, opened a jam jar and saw a visage of our lord and saviour Jesus Christ imprinted on the inside of the jam lid - whereas when I, a 5th Day Adventist, Pentecostal Baptist, Church of the Holy St Diana Evangeline Lilly rushed home and opened up a similar jam jar found a divine depiction of a man trying to fuck a peacock up the arse?

Am i going to hell?

No, you simply mistook a jar of Avian Rectal Lubricant for jam and took the instructions for use as a holy message. A common mistake.

Though on reflection, it might have been a divine direction. To be safe you should do something fowl.

Thanks for posting yet another rebuttal to one of Biden's lies:
“And I might add: The Second Amendment, from the day it was passed, limited the type of people who could own a gun and what type of weapon you could own. You couldn’t buy a cannon."

— President Biden, remarks on gun violence, June 23

You read my mind. :P

Reminds of that old joke:
"How can you tell if a politician is lying?"
"Their lips are moving."

Out of respect for your tendency to stay out of the partisan spats on this forum, I shall decline to pontificate further.

My apologies to Ed, I didn't mean to distract from his review of that cannon tweet.

My sister sent me this:

I would like to watch it at some point, but right now, after having lived through yet another day in contemporary corporate America, I feel like I'm at the bottom of an ocean of misery.

Please review.

If I watch it, will it lift me up a few fathoms? Or will it open up cracks in the ocean floor and send me further down into despair?

While I don't own a Falcon, I do own this Dopplehacken. I bought it some years ago and it came to me loaded. This happens with old cannon, they are left ready for use then abandoned. After flushing the powder and drying it, it ignited smartly. Impossible to tell how old it was though. The cannon is probably late 15th c., German (natch). I think it would be about 1/2 pounder. I showed the carriage when I was making it some years ago, I think.

I suspect that they would load these things with scrap sort of like a shotgun. BTW there are faint hints of Green and Red on the barrel. A friend far more knowledgeable than I suggested that these, being the colors of Nuremberg, signified that that is where it came from.

All cannon get a 10/10 on principle. Mine get a "+" too.

Incidentally, I have some black powder from the bursting charge of a Hotchkiss shell ca. 1895. I shall ignite it in due course and report on the results.

I should write up my exploration into the fate of a cannon model that figured in a very early photographic exhibition in Scotland. I bought this
https://i.imgur.com/BxDa0gj.jpg
It is a very accurate model of Mons Meg with the carriage as shown on Edinburgh Castle
https://external-content.duckduckgo.com ... f=1&nofb=1
It was sort of interesting to go down this rabbit hole. Turns out I found the model used for the photo in the exhibit in Edinburgh. Wrote the thing up for the Soc Ant of Scot. Long story short, my model was not THE model. Pity. But I did find the original. Never found a copy of the print though.

Note that the carriages to the right are the same as the one created in Victorian times when Meg was brought to the Tower. She is on an historically correct carriage now though there is some question as to whether the carriage was merely a means of transport. The thinking is that the barrel might have been "dug in" so to speak, prior to firing.

These little cannons remind me of the Cochrane/speedy story:
“ he walked the quarterdeck with Speedy's entire broadside, seven pieces of four-pounder shot, in his pockets.”
