Respect.
The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

A big, big thank you to the soldiers, Navy, Air Force, Merchants, Factory workers, taxpayers etc. and people of the USA for helping keep my backyard free.

My Dad liked England where he was prior to D-Day
n.b. Last time I was in London, on business of all things, we went to dinner with some business associates. One guy, maybe 38-40(?) pulled me aside and thanked me for our help in WW2. It was touching. I think Americans, particularly the young worthless fucks, have zero idea how desperate the situation was for the Brits prior to Pearl.

I recall on my first trip there we went by the houses of Parliament. I saw pock marks on the wall. A Bobbie noticed my looking and said "shrapnel". That was sobering. It became apparent to me that this capitol of the world was actually fucking bombed. It still causes me (even as I write this) to pause.

We all did good back then. It was a near a thing to a just war, in Augustinian terms, as we are ever likely to see.

This was right AFTER Kaserine Pass, thankfully.
North Africa, Sicily, Italy and back to England.
Bridgeport then Beaminster then Braunton Camp Wales. Back to Beaminster then Puddleton (!!) and
Dorchester then Portland then fucking D-Day. Then France/Belgium/Germany/Home

Sgt Christiana Ball from Rising Fawn, Georgia,
received a standing ovation following her performance of
“Some Gave All” (by Billy Ray Cyrus and Cindy Cyrus)

Let that sink in as we honor those who gave all on this day.

Sometimes to unknown desperate people in a corner of a foreign field.

You served didn't you? Then thank you too on behalf of myself and others who can't.

I got lucky: I fought the Vietnam war from a military desk in Idaho.

Some of my friends weren't so lucky.

You know, when I was a kid and I ask what he did in the war, he told me he played baseball.

Me Dad did National Service in the Pay Corps during Korea. He said "I didn't do much"

I always said he was the most important soldier of all. :D

My father's father lost two brothers in WW2. I don't have any photos of them.
