Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

It looks very much like cubed feta cheese, which would work in a fruit salad. There's a variety of peach which has white flesh, may be that, although I'm not sure if the flesh would start to go brown like apples do when exposed to the air.

Who cares? It's obviously some chef who knows nothing about puzzles. Or desserts.

The original Rubiks Cube came out when I was a lad. In college I ran into folks who could solve it. I can still solve it myself, though not via the shortest path.

Yeah, I was in college too, I think. I solved it a few times, but the last time I picked one up I think my obsessive tendencies took over. i remember spending hours at a time fuzting with it and after putting it down everything else looked roundish in comparison. That's when you know to step back from the Rubik's Cube.

Yeah, that guy deserves a special place in hell.

I still have my Rubik's Rings:

Awesome puzzle, but it's held together by a thin plastic wire that weaves through the whole thing. I first got one for Christmas when I was 9. About the time I mastered the thing, I broke it. After buying a breaking my 4th one, I couldn't find them anymore. About a decade later, they re-release the puzzle. I bought it and haven't touched it since. It's part of my puzzle collection.

Yes, I have a puzzle collection.

Before you start in, I just want to say fuck you guys. :x

I too fiddled with it for hours. Not trying to solve it but trying to ascertain the mechanics of it. I correctly surmised the geometry of the internal bearing track to a good degree of accuracy. Confirmation came in the [destructive] disassemble (as I couldn't fathom how to take it apart without breaking it). Satisfied, I then threw it away in a distant dumpster to prevent my roommate--to whom it belonged--from discovering my sin.

'I don't keep track of your fucking toys!' was my planned response to any pending queries.

Here's a part of my puzzle collection photographed about nine years ago. It's grown considerably since then. I've solved all the puzzles at one time or another, and still remember how to solve many of them.

You can make the two gearwheels' diameters with the ratio of sqrt(2) but it's the number of teeth that matter.

So you choose two ratios of teeth that are close to sqrt(2) which when multiplied together result in 2. For example the one double wheel can have 120/86 teeth and the other pair that drive the two parts of the rubik cuboid 129/90 teeth.

120/86 x 129/90 = 2

120/86 = 98.67% of sqrt(2), 129/90 = 101.35% of sqrt(2) - both these ratios are so close to sqrt(2) and to each other that they would pass a cursory inspection - the teeth on the gearwheels vary slightly in size but they are within three percent of each other and would mesh perfectly well given the loose fit of the 3D-printed plastic components.
