So far Google doesn’t censor blogs, but if Google doesn’t like the content, Goggle makes it hard to find using Google

But I noted that ed is quite able to write articulately – when he wants. Apparently we're not good enough for that.

WordPress itself isn't owned by Google etc. WordPress is a 501(c)3 organization.

Blogger is owned by Google.

If you are the master of your own domain, you can usually install WordPress on your website hosting control panel, and go from there. Main thing with that is to keep it updated because WordPress is a hacker magnet. This site gets hundreds of script kiddie hits trying to hack various WordPress plugins.

There are other content management systems that your webhost may have available, if WordPress doesn't float your boat. Drupal, Joomla, etc. but those might be a bit more complicated.

Alternatively, one could use basic HTML and roll one's own blog.
