Haven't really followed the NBA much this year, but it looks like the Lakers really suck and Boston doesn't have much to crow about either. Toronto and Golden State have the respective best records so far in the East and West. Not names I'm used to seeing at the top of the standings. The Knicks are just godawful. On an 8-game losing streak atm.

http://espn.go.com/nba/standings

And as usual lately, the West appears to be the vastly superior conference.
Last year for example, Phoenix had a 48-34 record (.585) but missed the playoffs whereas Atlanta made the playoffs in the East on a 38-44 record (.463). That's a pretty stark difference.

And cheating fag-fail Grammy steals the MLS Cup from the New England Revolution http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u264 ... 01db12.gif

--J.D.

P.S. Boston radio has been universally joking about this speculating "will there be a duck-boat tour" of, like, a parking lot in Framingham--which has lots of furiners who watch this abomination. Callers have been invited to say "which moment will this supplant? 2004? 2011? Banner 17? 1918?"

Now they will be asking callers, "did you cry like you did when Yaz popped out/the ball went through Buckner's legs/Tony Eason?"

That was some pretty odious basketball on all sides.

I could try a "see you in the playoffs" quip but making the playoffs is not exactly an achievement for a rebuilding team.
--J.D.

P.S.
For the few who care, the Celtics tie it with a buzzer-beating 3.

Still a pretty odiously played game.

After all that the Lakers got AD, cap space for another max-free-agent, and are going all in for the next 3-5 years. Either there will be a Championship or LeBron's legacy will take a small ding and Lakers will turn into Knicks.

They will have a team similar to how it was during LeBron's time in Miami. It will consist of 3 stars, some young players and few veterans who want to end their career with a championship ring.

All "HA!FAGGRAMMYFAILFAG" jokes aside, in the NBA you only really need two "very good players" to contend. Fans tormented Princess James in Miami by calling him "Scotty Pippen," but the fact remains that even Michael could not win "on his own." No one can. Ball Hoggin' rapist may have cost himself a few championships by running out the Better Player due to his ego. [While a Lawrence Bird alienated a Kevin McHale.--Ed.]

IT DIFFRENT!! HE STOLE THE BALL!!! [You mean Havelicek?--Ed.]

I will give this to the Fakers: they finally realized dumping the Ball Familyer Brand was a "good plan."

While I am happy super stars continue to join Lakers, I genuinely don't understand why. If someone wants to play in LA Clippers are also in town and are no longer owned by a racist. New York also has 2 teams. Furthermore, LeBron has demonstrated that one can build a global brand playing in a smaller market like Cleveland.

Sure one can say Lakers are a storied franchise but it's not like they are the only one.

Funny thing, it is not about being a "storied franchise," it is about the location. LA is a great area for the Phenomenally Rich.

"YNOTCLIPPERS!!!" because they suck and do not pay.

I heard a Sports Dude try the "Storied Franchise" regarding the Nicks who . . . won . . . like . . . when? It is NYC. Frankly, if you have a choice between NYC-Nicks/Nets and LA-Fakers . . . go Fakers!

Then comes the Chance to Win. Durant went to Golden State because of the chance to win a championship.

LeBron is complicated. He was a "hometown kid" who wore a MFYs hat during a Cleveland-MFYs playoff. "Cleveland being Cleveland" the idea that the Current Bestest could bring his team to a championship is the stupid myth that pervades all sports towns. LeBron did not and does not give a shit about Cleveland, Miami, Los Angeles or any place else. That is, perhaps, unfair to him because did Tom Brady grow up a Pat fan? Not if he was sane! He was a "Niners" fan.

Anyways, Cleveland finally sucked enough to pick the Right Talent . . . but could give him nothing around him. As much of an egotistical fathead Princess James is, you can understand why he lost patience and moved to "South Beach." When the guys who actually won his championships got old and/or retired, he moved on.

Having burned his bridge in Miami which has . . . nothing . . . where else would he go? He wants a "Hollywood" life after basketball to he moved to the Minnesota Fakers. Laughing all the way to the fucking bank.

Now if YOU were a cock-sucking sell-out-YANKEES SUCK REFS PAID OOF ACAINST BROONS PATS CHAPS basketball super star looking for a ring, going with The Princess is not a bad move. At least you are in LA, rather than frigid Boston, frigid and expensive New York, and . . . what the fuck is in "Golden State" again?

Oh yeah! A really awesome Dennys!

I am more surprised at all the rumors every year that "players want to go to the Knicks" when that franchise has replaced the Clippers as The Most Mismanaged.

Funny, I never "got" the hatred between fans in a city for different baseball teams. Sure, there is "history" and all of that, and then the whole silly "Dimaggio's Italian so . . . yay!" way of thinking, but there is not a lot of rationality in Sports Fandom.

So when the Black White Sox finally won, ironically breaking their "curse" right after the Red Sox, Cubs fans were inconsolable, just as White Sox fans were pissed that the Cubs finally won. I "get it" in the sense that this is all a stupid reflection of tribalism, but that is all that it is.

Sort of like no one will ever choke as eagerly and hard as Your Mom the 2004 Yankees.

Durant may not be able to play for most of next season however, due to an injury in the NBA finals.

There's almost no chance he plays any games in the upcoming season. And while Durant's injury is severe, his playing style can overcome it; the only danger is re-injury.

Actually, his play will deteriorate since he will lose some of the speed off of that leg.

Can he be a useful player over a year from now? Who knows?

For that amount?

With Durant's playing style the speed off that leg does not matter IMO -- and the game in the finals where he was injured back that up as well. Durant obviously won't have the same athleticism but that's never been part of his game. I think it's a fair gamble for a team like the Nets to take.
