A couple of beat takeshi yakusa movies: ‘outrage’ and ‘beyond outrage’

Think I prefer them to the Hollywood goodfellas, godfather etc

The third is disappointing, but I enjoyed the first two. I think I posted a screen capture of one of the more prominent actors in it – Quentin used him as the Boss Who Gets Beheaded – basically telling everyone they were stupid fucks.

Why is it that in almost all of these shows a character can be found injured in broad daylight and the next scene is the cops and ambulances carting them off in the dark of night?

Simple, all crimes are committed at 4pm.

I should have added that his take on Zatoichi is excellent. Even has Takenobu Asano in it.

They used names from the book/movie for the characters. I'll be interested to compare notes.

So I finished watching the Expanse. Seems pretty clear that some sort of sequel is in store.
Spoiler:
The main story line got wrapped up pretty neatly, although sort of aburptly.

But another one only just began and it seems like it would have been pointless to include it unless some sort of spinoff is planned.

The little girl with her zombie brother who was resurrected by alien 'dogs'. That little subplot was obviously dangled and left unresolved.

It's had its moments. Last episode tonight. I want to read the book again. This series was okay, nothing to stay up late for though.

That was sorta my takeaway after one episode. I found their use of names from the book to be irretating.

BSG had some good bits but also some things that were just nuts.

Too pick one: I remember the boxing tournament traditionally used to blow off steam, where you could (were expected to ) challenge superiors or juniors that had annoyed you.

Does any army do that? Allow aggrieved enlisted men to challenge generals and beat them to a pulp? (And the other way too, as Admiral Adama challenges the chief engineer for worrying about his newborn).

Not to mention the ludicrous character arcs of Apollo.

If it had ended after season 1, it would have been amazing. It they kept going, stretching out to absurdity and beyond. With ridiculous cylon character/goal development. Horrible lingering let down of a show.

Tried watching Don't Look Up. I found it so annoying that I stopped halfway through.

It's like Armageddon Day but dumber. I don't know how it ends, so I can't spoil that, but here's my rant about the first half of the movie:
Spoiler:
OK, so the concept has been done before, but I guess they wanted to do it as a tragic, cynical farce instead of a feel-good adventure.
So some astronomers at Michigan State discover a new comet coming from the Oort cloud, and guess what? It's headed on a direct collision course for earth. But instead of humanity pulling together to at least try to do something about it, the politicians are so venal and corrupt that they care more about winning the next election than saving humanity. Some rich weirdo who's a big campaign donor talks the clueless president into canceling a mission to blow it up because he thinks there's valuable minerals in it and we can break it up into little pieces and let it fall into the Pacific Ocean. Everyone is so shallow and stupid and petty, it's kinda like, well if this is humanity maybe we deserve to get wiped out. Is that what they're saying? Do I want to keep watching this shitshow till the end? Fuck. Maybe I'll try again later but, it's so cringey. Even if it's cringey on purpose, I still find it off-putting.
ETA: I misremembered. The movie was just Armageddon, not Armageddon Day. The one with Bruce Willis. There was also Deep Impact. Similar ideas. But this is the cynical Post-Modern farcical take on the idea of a planet-killer asteroid movie.

Don't look Up is an accurate portrayal of how leading scientists and governments can not only fuck things up, they can fuck things up in ways nobody could even imagine.

Also they are liars, cons and selfish pricks.

I liked the first episode, but should have been a movie rather than a series. There are indeed lulz to be had, but also dead horses to be beaten.

A bit brutal. Can't wait until the lead character gets whacked. Or maybe he did get whacked and this is all a nightmare he's having in his final moments, I dunno.

Peacemaker

I was not expecting to like it, but I made it through the first episode and it wasn't completely terrible. By the last episode of the first season, I was really enjoying it.

They were playing music that I haven't heard since high school.

The last episode was quite epic, but a few things happened in the final scene that threw me.
Spoiler:
Who was the bug he was feeding? I thought they were all dead. Why wasn't the bug trying to murder him?

What was up with his father sitting with him and the flashback of Eagly dropping the helmet in the wrong place. Don't fucking tell me his dad was trying to protect him because that's totally fucked up.

Who the hell is the little dude in the green suit. They never explained that dude.

Ozark became tedious--kept hoping for everyone to get whacked. So we're now watching The Witcher. Seems worthy. Figured out the various out-of-order chronology at least.

"Fuck."
