12+ pages of elimination of words to whittle down the thoughts we are allowed. And counting.

100% this.Ben Trovado wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 7:05 pm 12+ pages of elimination of words to whittle down the thoughts we are allowed. And counting.
Handicapped used to be the "nice" word to replace the "mean" words lame, crippled, and invalid.
Mentally ill was the nice term to replace crazy.
OCD replaced anal retentive prick.
Then there were the technical sounding words.
Quadriplegic replaced stumpy.
Post traumatic stress disorder replaced shell shock.
And don't get me started on the pronouns. I wish I could send my kids back in time to meet my militant English teacher and try to say They in place of he and she. They never would have graduated from elementary school.
George Carlin will be busting out of his grave any day now to set things right.

Since to late 80s, I have viewed this as Eupeptics -- giving something a better coating to help something be swallowed easier.Bruce wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 4:00 pm100% this.Ben Trovado wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 7:05 pm 12+ pages of elimination of words to whittle down the thoughts we are allowed. A large portion of those in charge feel that renaming something somehow solves (or hides) the problem.
Prison - Dept. of corrections.
Well, THAT certainly solved the problem. Off to gin and tonics!

Gimpy idiotsJuliet:
'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? It is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.
