For the time being, Japan seems to be headed in the right direction. Cases are down.

https://toyokeizai.net/sp/visual/tko/covid19/en.html

Of course, Japan was a latecomer to getting its population vaccinated (I'm still less than a month out from getting my second dose) so there has been less time for the immunity to wane.

Current data from the CDC:

https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracke ... rate-total

Total Vaccine Doses
Delivered: 461,117,525
Administered: 382,294,795

"Administered" means actually injected into a person. 210,361,099 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine, so it's 7,653 deaths among that cohort, or 0.0036% incidence rate of death associated with the vaccination.

VAERS data, although not as robust as data from controlled clinical trials in which adverse events are adjudicated as to whether or not they are caused by the study treatment, serve a valuable post-marketing purpose, not the least of which is to determine a "signal" of adverse event incidence rates. From the VAERS data, for example, there is a definite signal of higher incidence rate of death in the mRNA vaccines versus the viral vector vaccine.

One might consider comparing the incidence rates of severe illness and death in COVID-19 with the incidence rates of severe illness and death in the vaccines, in order to make an informed decision while consulting with their physician.

COVID-19 mRNA vaccines are given in the upper arm muscle. Once the instructions (mRNA) are inside the muscle cells, the cells use them to make the protein piece. After the protein piece is made, the cell breaks down the instructions and gets rid of them.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc ... /mrna.html
the vector (not the virus that causes COVID-19, but a different, harmless virus) will enter a cell in our body and then use the cell’s machinery to produce a harmless piece of the virus that causes COVID-19. This piece is known as a spike protein and it is only found on the surface of the virus that causes COVID-19
.https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc ... ector.html

You can tell how different they are. On causes your cells to make a spike protein, and the other uses your cells to make the spike protein.

Japan has pretty much caught up to the US now in terms of vaccination rates, and new infections are dropping. The current state of emergency measures for Covid will be ended at the end of this month.

I can remember when they mocked Trump because he said there would be vaccines

Because of how quickly a coronavirus mutates

Here, we use structure-guided protein engineering to remove the S1 subunit from the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)-CoV spike (S) glycoprotein and develop stabilized stem (SS) antigens. Vaccination with MERS SS elicits cross-reactive β-CoV antibody responses and protects mice against lethal MERS-CoV challenge.

Trump says a lot of things that he has no evidence for. Scientists would never make that claim because no effective coronavirus vaccine had been produced before.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will need more time to decide whether to approve Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine for use in children ages 12 to 17, the company announced Sunday.

The extended timeline is so the FDA can look into reports of a rare side effect — myocarditis, or the inflammation of the heart muscle — in those who've gotten the shot. Moderna said the FDA informed the company of the delay on Friday.

Looking at the world data, the most vaccinated countries are having it way worse, like a magnitude worse, than poor unvaccinated countries.

Bivalent boosters provided substantial additional protection against severe omicron infection in persons who had previously been vaccinated or boosted, although the effectiveness waned over time. The effectiveness of bivalent boosters was higher than that of monovalent boosters.

Never before has there been a vaccine for a coronavirus, and here we have multiple ones, and a coronavirus that doesn’t mutate

It’s unbelievable
