### You think Windows 11 is a problem?

Half of all government spending on computers is dedicated to keeping old systems going, a report has found.

The government spends £4.7bn a year on IT across all departments, and £2.3bn goes on patching up systems, some of which date back 30 years or more.

Labour said the situation showed Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove's "incompetence and failure to deliver".

The Cabinet Office said it was taking action to reduce the government's reliance on outdated technology.

The Cabinet Office report, called Organising for Digital Delivery, warns that government could end up spending between £13bn and £22bn over the next five years on obsolete systems.

Replacing all of the computers that can't run Windows 11 is going to cost a shitload of tax dollars. Business are likewise going to feel the pinch.

I should upgrade this machine now before the prices get too high. I'm considering a laptop but I like being able to build my own. Decisions, decisions.

Yeah, I like building my own. There's that thrill when you hit the power button and the thing actually fucking works! As an added bonus, it costs me far less than PC World charge for an inferior machine. And don't even get me started on Doctor X and his MAC...

Because mine has been working for far longer, of course.

Sorry to make you cry.

That seems reasonable as it is phrased to be so borad.

The prices have been going up and worse still the length of time it takes to get some things. Weird times.

Microsoft works hard to make hardware incompatible.

Twards the begging of 2021 I built one from the ground up running equipment that was near top of the line at the time and it says I couldn't upgrade to 11.

Kinda really fucking happy about that though. When they released 10 a lot of peoples PC's auto updated from 7 to 10 breaking truckloads of stuff. I would be moderately pissed if I came home and I had some new dumpsterfire OS

Getting a Windows 11 laptop for work next week, for testing. I will report any hilarities.

Have to send the Windows 11 laptop back. Display is showing random glitches in the Matrix.

Will get a new one next week.

My MacBook Pro, however, is doing just fine and dandy.

Also the boffins at the equipment depot might consider clearing their search history before shipping out machines. Whoever set the one up that they sent was looking for NFL gambling bookies.

...and they were searching for the Jets! :hyper:

Got my second new Windows 11 laptop. Will have to get online with IT on Monday to get it configured. Not allowed to start it up until I am on the Teams call with IT on a separate machine. Then I have to turn it on, install some app that allows the IT person to run it remotely, and they do whatever it is they do so I can log on and use it.

For my own good.

Second Win 11 laptop is configured. I'll use it for work tomorrow and see what's what. I don't find the new taskbar and design theme to be an improvement and I don't like the Edge browser.

Would rather use the Mac. Which reminds me, I have to request Admin rights on the Mac tomorrow for another year. Otherwise I won't be able to use Xcode or anything else to do programming for iPads.
We have the opposite problem. They give us all macs, then buy the microsoft bundle and emulator so that our $3000 machines can properly behave like a$700 laptop.
