Records for 44,000 students on a laptop -- STOLEN

Post by Pyrrho »

WTF were these files doing on a LAPTOP????

Records stolen
A laptop computer containing the personal information of more than 44,000 Cleveland State University students, previous students and applicants was stolen from the university's admissions office.

The university issued a statement Friday, a week after the computer was taken.

Information on most of the students included addresses and Social Security numbers and could reach back to student rosters 4 years old
How much you want to be the damned thing didn't have a password, either?

This is downtown Cleveland, you idiots! Damn computer should have been a desktop workstation, cable-locked to the table.

Science has made it more and more convenient to efficiently fuck up our lives beyond comprehension.

I disagree, Doc. People are stupid. Rest assured that 6,000 years ago some idiot Sumerian left a clay tablet with sensitive information on it laying around, just as efficiently fucking up the lives of those concerned beyond comprehension. :D

You cannot carry that much information on a clay tablet.

I win.

Though you could really get burned trying to get through a fire-wall.

Clay tablet encryption was done by wrapping a tablet in more clay. Pretty easy to crack.

Then came the "floppy disc" craze of papyrus. Lasts for centuries unless it comes in contact with water.

And so another biblical prophecy comes to pass. The 44,000 have been raptured. Now comes seven years of tribulation for the rest of us.
