Eggs were around long before chickens. All birds, including chickens, evolved from dinosaurs; and dinosaurs laid eggs too.

The egg/whatever would eventually become the egg or egg cell.

If you'd like to make a really big leap, we could consider RNA the "egg" as it helps making duplicates of the DNA of a cell in order for the cell to divide and reproduce.

Yes, I have forgotten the technical terms. I remember its "M---osis".
