Looking for two puzzle books...need help.

Post by Andonyx »

Okay I realize that this is going to be like asking if you know which movie I'm thinking of that has that guy from that show that one time, so I apologize in advance.

I'm lookinf for a title, and author, or maybe a link to two books which are puzzles. They don't contain puzzles, and aren't about puzzles, the books themselves ARE puzzles.

One came out in the early eighties I believe and was something of a media sensation because if you deciphered it corrrectly I believe it gave you the location of a Golden Rabbit statue worht a good deal of money. I think it took 2 years but someone finally found it. The book consisted of illustrations in almost a medieval tapestry style that could be deciphered into clues as to the statue's location. Is this jogging anyone's memory?

The other is much more run of the mill, and I picked it up as a kid. It's a book with photos, pictures and collection from a fake egyptian archeological dig, but each section was also a puzzle which could be decoded to give an answer at the end of the book. I can't remember a title, but the cover was mostly black with a picture of the sphinx on the front.

I'm sorry to be so vague but no matter how many search times I try on google or amazon I get 10s of thousands of results that I cannot possible wade through.

If anybody remembers what I'm talking about, your help is greatly appreciated.

I had a similar book called "MAZE". I never did solve it on my own, but years later I found a solution on the Internet... still, there are plenty of questions left unanswered. These kinds of books drive me batty.
