Brad Hand's solid season didn't earn him another one with the Indians.
Feeling the financial pinch from a shortened season, Cleveland declined Hand's $10 million contract option on Friday and also chose not to exercise options for either first baseman Carlos Santana ($17.5 million) or outfielder Domingo Santana ($5 million).

Word is that the Cleveland Indians is going to change the team name. No word on what the new team name will be.

The Cleveland Browns are short-handed as they try to clinch the franchise’s first playoff berth since 2002, the longest active drought in the NFL.
They learned Sunday morning they will be without starting rookie left tackle Jedrick Wills against the New York Jets because of an illness. Wills had been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday and activated Saturday, but was then downgraded Sunday. Kendall Lamm will take his starting spot.
The Browns’ trip to New Jersey was delayed Saturday after starting linebacker B.J. Goodson was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list and four receivers, including top target Jarvis Landry, were ruled out because of close contact. The Browns will be missing receivers Rashard Higgins, Donovan Peoples-Jones and KhaDarel Hodge and linebacker Jacob Phillips. They were placed on the COVID-19 list on Saturday before the team flew to the New York area.

Browns can lose to the Jets one week and beat the Steelers the next week.

@Browns
We were informed this morning that Head Coach Kevin Stefanski, two additional members of the coaching staff and two players have tested positive for COVID-19.
Our contingency planning calls for Special Teams Coordinator Mike Priefer to serve as the acting Head Coach.

Yeah.
I heard about that today.
Guess the Browns will be a popular pick. . . .

Meanwhile, the play caller is a guy who previously suggested that we should "round up all the gays, put them on an island, and nuke it."

Which Priefer originally denied saying until it was corroborated by another player.
Then he was very sorry. When his job was on the line.*

It is not like anyone has overcome a 25 point deficit in the 4th quarter.

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is “almost 100%” he and his wife Emily saw a UFO on their way home from dinner in Austin, Texas on Wednesday night. In his defense, he’s not the first star QB to say as much.
“Almost 100%, Em and I just saw a UFO drop straight out of the sky on our way home from dinner... we stopped and looked at each other and asked if either of us saw it,” he tweeted. “Very bright ball of light going straight down out of the sky towards Lake Travis. Anybody else witness this?”
“I won’t lie... I’m typically not someone who buys into UFO talk. But all I know is... I saw something tonight that I have never seen,” Emily added. “And I’m a little thrown off.”

One of the most intriguing and arcane names suggested among the multitude of possible replacements for the Indians is the Cleveland Cinders.
A few months ago, after the Tribe alluded to a potential name change, CBS sports writer Dayn Perry tossed a few suggestions as replacement names in a chuckler of a column, and included a brief mention of Cinders. It’s an odd choice, albeit one that rolls off the tongue. “Cinders” refers to Cinders O’Brien, a Cleveland ballplayer whose career was brief and whose life was cut tragically short.

Cleveland Indians fans will not be able to paint their faces in Native American fashion or wear headdresses to games at Progressive Field this season, according to a new team policy.
The no-tolerance policy also involves abusive or inappropriate language or conduct deemed disorderly or disruptive, and that includes “inappropriate dress.” The team says fans could be ejected or refused admission.
Restricted attire includes headdresses and face paint that references American Indian cultures and traditions.

Haven't found anything about that but I would not be surprised. You can wear Slider face paint though. :hyper:

News about that drummer...he missed the home opener because he is recovering from triple-bypass heart surgery. Local band dude pinch hit for him though.

With Cleveland Indians drummer John Adams missing his first home opener since 1973 due to health issues, Akron native Patrick Carney of the Black Keys is filling the longtime Progressive Field staple's void. And despite the Indians' offense not giving him much to work with, Carney has been more than active in banging the drum and helping to provide the soundtrack to Cleveland's home opener against the Kansas City Royals.
