Well...a logo symbolizing a spitball does seem appropriate...imma call it "Chief Wingnut"

Aside from the whingeball logo, the worst thing about it is that the team is keeping Slider as the mascot.

To be fair, I'm sure a lot of the team names that everyone is used to today sounded a little silly when they were first announced.

The Red Stockings? The Trolley Dodgers? The Giants? They only don't sound silly now because we are used to them.

Is it just a coincidence that the last 5 letters of "Guardians" are the same as "Indians"?

I'm sure it's no coincidence. One could argue that the word "indians" is still in the new name, if you kinda sorta look at it right...the letterforms are so similar that the "r" where it joins the "d" is much like the "n" and the one stroke of the "a" is much like the "i". Food for the conspiracy theorists. Me, I got no beef with the new name. Could have been something like "Outdians"...hey, wait! I got a ticket for this seat!

Why'd you put this comment into a Cleveland thread, then?

The guy who bangs a drum in the bleachers is recovering from health problems and won't be at the final home game.
“Don’t forget the reason I brought it was because I was a seat banger. Like everybody else, you know, growing up in Cleveland in the old ballpark you grab the seat next to you and in unison you’d be banging the seat. That’s when the seats were made out of wood and metal, not plastic. I was sitting on the bleachers and they have those redwood benches. Well, yeah, can’t get a whole lot of noise out of doing that. So I thought, I’m bringing a drum.”

Oh that guy. Used to annoy the shit out of me when they showed Heaveland as the featured game on TV over here.

Which was probably twice.

I think, really, he annoys Cleveland fans as well, much like "Fireman Ed" embarrasses Jets fans – which is quite the achievement when you think about it – and everyone hates the little shits who start the wave in every stadium because we love the late 70s.

But we do not mention everyone joining in to sing a song about a pedophile in the 8th inning when your sworn blood-rival evil hate suck are kicking your ass by six runs.

From the article:
“Oh, well, it could be worse,” Adams said. “I think it’s OK, Guardians. Does that mean that we won’t hear any more from the, you know, two or three Native American people who are offended?

Believe it or not, they wanted me to change the way I play the drum. I said, ‘Wait a minute, buddy. How do you know my Lithuanian-Slovak-Russian people didn’t play this before you did? You don’t know. It’s a cadence I’m playing.
Typical Clevelander.

Not being funny or anything, but shouldn't this topic be re-named "New York Sports Teams?"

ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky didn’t mince his words after the Cleveland Browns’ 37-14 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6.

“(The Browns are the) most disappointing team in football,” Orlovsky said. “They’re a 6-0 roster and they’re a 3-3 football team.”

The Cleveland Guardians roller derby team, which has operated under the moniker for years and which had maintained a social media presence and owned the clevelandguardians.com website, today filed a federal lawsuit in the Ohio Northern District Court seeking an injunction against the Cleveland Guardians Major League Baseball team, alleging the professional organization violated the rights of their squad with the team's name change.

“There cannot be two ‘Cleveland Guardians’ teams in Cleveland, and, to be blunt, Plaintiff was here first,” the roller derby team wrote in the lawsuit.
There used to be two teams in New York called the Giants. The baseball team moved to San Francisco, but the football team is still there.

(My guess is they're looking for a settlement. I'd probably do the same thing in their shoes.)

Until this happened I for one never knew Cleveland had a roller derby team. I care less about it now than I did when I didn't know.

It seems they must have reached a settlement that was acceptable for all. I'm guessing there was a small payoff.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/326 ... ights-name
The sides on Tuesday jointly announced an "amicable resolution," an agreement that permits the Indians to continue their changeover to Guardians -- a switch that was delayed due to the legal matter and isn't completely finished.

No other terms of the agreement were disclosed.
In other news, it seems the Phillies reached an agreement with the creator of the 'original' Phanatic mascot.
