Re: Ping Doctor X
At least there are people still alive, myself included, who remember seeing the Pirates win a World Series.
Remember Willie Stargell? Remember "We Are Family"? I was rooting for the Orioles in that one. Not an Orioles fan, but I thought they were the less annoying team.

True. However Jiroemon Kimura still lives along with at least ten others who could "remember" the last Cubs WS win. . . .
. . . though not the oldest Cubs fan:

Re: Ping Doctor X
Ah, now that is an old-school Japanese name. You don't see many names ending with -emon any more (except the cartoon character Doraemon) but it used to be pretty common. Wikipedia says that he is "the longest-lived verified man in history" but I seem to recall that the Guinness Book of World Records used to recognize another Japanese man as being even older. I guess some doubt has been cast on that claim.
I found a reference to him:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shigechiyo_Izumi
Yes, Guinness used to recognize his claim, but they no longer do.
