I did a nine hour bus trip in Nepal on a road that looked very much like that video from 25:50.

It was one of the scariest experiences of my life.

I'm sure there was at least one "Oh, shit!" moment once a minute for most of the trip.

On the way back, we insisted on a hiring a jeep. Our guide said, "Expensive." We were like, "Fucking try us."

In the end, I think we paid $150 total for the five of us and, I have to say, to this day it was probably the best money I've ever spent.

If I'd taken the jeep on the way up, I'm sure I would have thought it was insane. But, compared to the bus, it was glorious.

Riding that jeep down was probably one of the top 10 happiest moments of my life.

I think bus plunging is more of a problem outside of Kathmandu.

I'm not sure if the video below was the actual road we took. But it's very similar. Including the waterfall. And we did it in an old, overloaded, piece of shit bus like the one in the earlier video. The jeep here looks like the one we were laughing our asses off in all the way back.

Note the lack of any sort of guardrails as far as the eye can see. There were points when the outer edge of our bus tires extended over the edge of the canyon with the "spotter" directing the driver inches at a time.

Nepal is amazing. But that bus ride was scarier than shit.

Okay, not a bus, and not a plunge either, but in tangentially related news, one of those little trains that looks a lot like a bus was prevented from plunging by a handily placed whale sculpture.

Yesterday I saw a car merge over into the fastest lane on the interstate and almost hit a car already in the lane and the lady in the lane already jerked the wheel to keep from getting hit, hit the concrete barrier, flipped the car over (she was doing 87mph in a 65 zone) and she died

An articulated bus dramatically plunged off an overpass in New York City, leaving the front half hanging from the highway ramp it was navigating, its fall broken only by the road below.

The driver was seriously injured in the crash just after 11 p.m. Thursday at an interchange of the Cross Bronx and Major Deegan expressways, and seven passengers suffered minor injuries, fire officials said. They were taken to hospitals. No other vehicles were involved.

Philosophical question: if the "fall was broken only by the road below", was the fall actually broken?

I think they mean that if it weren't for the road, the bus would still be plunging into the bottomless abyss.

Bus drives off bridge into canal ; 40 dead

NEW DELHI (AP) — An overcrowded bus drove off a bridge and into a canal in central India, killing at least 40 people, an official said.

Six people were rescued after the accident in Madhya Pradesh state, District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Choudhary said.

He said more than 46 people were on board the bus, which was designed for 34.

Rescuers recovered 40 bodies and were searching for other passengers. The water supply to the canal was cut to aid the rescue effort.

...

Police say more than 110,000 people are killed every year in road accidents across India. Most crashes are blamed on reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and aging vehicles.

Thirteen people have been killed and two children seriously hurt after a cable car in northern Italy plunged to the ground.

The updated death toll was announced by Italy's alpine rescue service, having risen from earlier reports that nine people died.

The cable car links the town of Stresa on the shores of Lake Maggiore with a mountain area called Mottarone, which lies 4,900ft above sea level.

The force of the impact as the cable car hit the ground flung some bodies into the surrounding forest, reports said.

This is not a bus per se but it has many of the characteristics necessary for inclusion

1- occurs in a shithole country
2- overcrowded
3- conveyance looks like a piece of shit

Alternatively, they should have realized that if they got to their destination all they would be able to say is that they got from one horrid place to another.

Cops give disturbing update after four survive car plunging off cliff
https://a57.foxnews.com/hp.foxnews.com/ ... ?tl=1&ve=1
A man who injured himself and three others, including two children, after driving his Tesla off a cliff in California on Monday is now facing multiple charges after authorities said the plunge was intentional.

California Highway Patrol in San Francisco on Facebook said Dharmesh A. Patel, of Pasadena, was arrested for attempted murder and child abuse Tuesday. After talking to witnesses and gathering evidence at the scene, investigators believe "this incident was an intentional act."
Not a bus but there were passengers and the word "plunge" was used in the story. Has the correct characteristics except for the vehicle. Now the driver is named Dharmesh A. Patel which could well be the name of a driver of one of those third world busses that seem to plunge with alarming regularity so I think that this might actually qualify as a legit story for this thread.

I ask you, could this not be Bangladesh?
