A google image search for St Maarten airport has some interesting results.ed wrote:I recall that the runway on St Thomas dead ended in a mountain. Some jet had crashed there a couple of years before I went down and the vegetation was still fucked up.

The takeoff was scarier than the landing as I recall.

Re: The Bus Plunging Thread
A few years ago, I took a bus from Kathmandu to Langtang, Nepal.
I found a short video of some of the route on YouTube. The section filmed is not even close to the worst parts. In fact, I'd say 50~60 percent of the nine hour (100km) ride was worse. In the video, the driver is hardly even slowing down. But there were many places where the tires were so close to the edge the driver's assistant had to get out and guide the bus slowly forward.

Peru again:
At least 44 dead after bus plunges off cliff in Peru
Remember this happened just last month in the same country with a similar death toll.

(Final death toll on that one was 52 apparently, it's mentioned in this article.)Anaxagoras wrote:Peru Bus Plunges Off ‘Devil’s Curve,’ Killing at Least 48 (Jan. 3rd)

The 265M KMB (Kowloon Motor Bus) bus, carrying 40 passengers, was en route to Tin Shui Wai from Kwai Chung, when it was in collision with a container lorry.

Not plunging exactly but further evidences of how dangerous buses are and proof that they should be registered and the users trained and licensed.

There's no denying it anymore. Global Bus Plunging is real.
I still think it's natural phenomenon, not man made.

This one may win the thread but I have to link to it.

Bus plunges of Chinese bridge.
the camera inside the bus showing a woman passenger hitting the driver and him fighting back
a car cam video of him driving off the side of the bridge, killing everybody, ed style.
Lessons:
1. don't pick a fist fight with the bus driver
2. Chinese guardrails are invisible to busses.

Those flimsy guardrails do seem to be a design flaw with the bridge.

Watching the vid, I'm under the impression the driver did it voluntarily. :?

It does look like he steered it that way. I have no idea what he was thinking. He was clearly distracted by the woman attacking him though.

Re: The Bus Plunging Thread
The episode epitomizes the ineffable nature of Bus Plunging. An exemplar, as it were. I hope that we are all learning from these episodes.
