It is . . . Getting Interesting
It is possible a three-way tie can occur for the Wild Card in the AL. For those not paying attention, the New Wild Card is a "play-in" game between the two non-division winners with the best record. Currently, Pyrrho's Boys have the edge by one game (91-70) whereas the DEVIL Rays and the Steers 'n Queers are (90-71). So if Cleveland loses, and either Tampa or Texas wins, we have a tie. If they both win we have a three-way tie. If they all win, just a two-way tie.
Currently . . . Tampa was destroying Toronto, but Toronto has scored 3. Cleveland leads the Twins 2-0 but Texas is losing 1-0 to the Los Angeles Angels of Orange County and Environs.

Meanwhile, Alvarez pitches a no-hitter against Detroit while on deck. . . .

Our record was 5-1 against Texas ... err, Steers and Queers. Tampa we were 2-4. You like the pitching match up with Tampa better?Pyrrho wrote:Tampa is my guess.

Just out of curiosity, if it had ended in a three-way tie, what would have been done?

Re: It is . . . Getting Interesting
I knew it, then just tried to explain it on the phone, and I am not sure. Not going to be arsed to look it up, but basically Cleveland and Tampa would play and the loser of that would play Texas. I think. I heard that there was a possibility of Cleveland playing twice.

Cleveland is 4 outs away from the end of their season unless they can score at least 3 runs.Pyrrho wrote:CELEBRATE! INDIANS BACK IN THE POSTSEASON

"...and that's that."
At least they made it that far.
Now on to our local fantasy football team.

I would like to see pirates in there. Being an underdog type of fan that I am, however Mrs izittrue is a RedSox fan so we are hoping for them. Maybe if I pray harder....
Well obviously both can be in the series but I would root for the Sox.

Well they both advance to the next stage. The other two series are going to game 5.izittrue wrote:Will it be a Boston-Los Angeles series?
That would be a pretty exciting matchup though.

Verlander's good. Lucky for Boston that Detroit needed him for game 5 so he can only pitch one, maybe two games in the ALCS.

That certainly helps, but Boston is cornering the market on toilet paper.-

How often does it happen. Make a great catch and hit the following half of inning.

First pitch.
Hunter almost had a play on it. The Interwebz radio was a few seconds before the HDTV so I hear Dave O'Brien screaming the call, "It's over his head," which means at least Ortiz gets a double scoring two . . . "IT'S GONE!" http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u264 ... fc871a.gif
To quote what Steven Wright said about the 2004 ALCS: "If it was a movie, it would be a bad movie, because no one would believe it."

Re: It is . . . Getting Interesting
Wow. That was an amazing game.
Great day to be a Boston fan, isn't it?
That was clutch. Down 5-1 and Ortiz comes up with bases loaded and puts the first pitch into the bullpen over a diving Hunter, who goes over the wall.
The bottom of the 9th was a pretty cool coup de grace too.
Pretty big game too. It's only game 2 of a 7-game series, but going to Detroit with the series tied is a lot different than going there already down 2 games to face Verlander.

Re: It is . . . Getting Interesting
Seriously. NO ONE believed that would happen. At best, maybe a double . . . cut it 5-3 or even 5-4 if Pedie runs, which he would since it was two outs.Anaxagoras wrote:That was clutch. There were about 17--17--guys who were suppose to be set-up and closers. Koji? He was "some guy." Maybe mop-up or something. Seriously. The bottom of the 9th was a pretty cool coup de grace too.
Oh shit yeah. 0-2 against Verlander? Feh! Lucky to lose it in Boston. Now who knows? In fact, the post game discussion as I type discussed this very point: "Oh yeah, you're walking the plank!"Pretty big game too.
