Video Games
So I bought Reckoning. Seemed like an ok RPG. Got the disk (I never download, too many problems in my experience).
Put the disk in and find I need to create an Origin account (!). OK. Annoying, but OK. Thing downloads this crappy software so that I can have the Origin experience or somesuch. Anyway, we finally get to the game installation thing. 15 minutes later get an error message. DX something, internal error something. My machine is up to date, meets recommended configuration etc etc. So I search the interwebs for the error. Seems there might be a conflict, remedy is to reboot.
Reboot, reload. Same fucking thing.
Write a scathing review on Amazon, give it one star, get return authorization.
I live by a few rules. One is that I will not play software engineer to play a game. I do not delete files, I do not download dlls or whatever. I meet their requirements, it damn well better work. Fuck them.
And you wonder why I am a pirate.

Similar experience with an Anker bluetooth keyboard. They ignored my e-mail until they saw my 1-star review on Amazon. Then they wanted me to play QA engineer when the keyboard they sent me sstutteered unnconntrolllablyy. I demonstrated that another keyboard worked perfectly, and that was enough to rule out the host as the problem. 3 weeks later, got a replacement which only stutters now and then. Raised them to two stars. Then started getting e-mails from them for a few weeks, begging me to raise the rating in my review. Duh, dudes, the time to pro-actively contact me was when I first e-mailed you about the problem.

Re: Video Games
Back in the day I recall making an effort to get games to run. The idea of moving files around or fooling around with all sorts of workarounds really is a pain and should be unnecessary if you have current software.

Re: Video Games
Machinarium came in to my fruit board without problems. A major update came in a couple weeks later, slightly changing the solution to a couple levels and making the UI a bit more uniform.

Re: Video Games
updates are cool and minor bugs are acceptable, these things are sorta complex. The difficulty is the Steam/Origin intrusiveness and the need to ... reengineer ones system.

I was in the Czech Republic but did not even seek plush Berta and Josef dolls.
I guess they're headquarted in Brno, which I did not visit.

So it has never occurred to you why people are reluctant to deal with you even when it is in their best interest like a good review. Keeping it short, first impressions matter.DrMatt wrote:Similar experience with an Anker bluetooth keyboard. They ignored my e-mail until they saw my 1-star review on Amazon. You are a cunt hater because your mommy had a dick. She had to bring you out through her shit hole and no one wanted to touch you. You have been bitter since that day and a bit of a stinky poo.Doctor X wrote:A Racist Cunt never wins.

You are only acting if you don't use a 120baud Teletype(r) with those keys you have to sit on to depress.

Fuck Steam
I bought the disk for Civ 5 because I understand why Ed dislikes downloading..only to find out I needed a 4 GB download anyway. Fuck's sake. Then I had to install Steam. Fucking malware. Slows my startup. And the game doesn't start without it.
Fuck Steam, Fuck Firaxis. I may never buy another Civ game..been playing them since Civ 1
If I have to jump through your hoops, then you can take your goddamned hoops, fold them until they are all sharp, pointy corners, and shove them straight up your ass.

Re: Video Games
Oblivion and Skyrim go thru steam but you can play them without running steam. Dunno about others.
