From the Pats Reporter Dudes:

On Doing a Television Show:

"If he was drafted by the Patriots Belichick would cut him today."

On Being Associated with an Oprah Television Show Devoted to His Trials and Tribulations:

"I don't care if he's gay, I just don't want him to be a pussy."

Appears that football is not his primary interest. However, another Official Dude noted that given the likelihood of seventh round draft picks making a team, he may be trying to cash in when he can. In fact, lower-end draftees prefer not to be drafted because they can then try to find the team with the best opportunity and try to get on as an undrafted free agent. They have a better chance of actually making a team.

In the rain.

Best line today was from a local talk radio loudmouth:

"He's a drama queen."

Other loudmouth:

"Now be careful there..."

Then:

"If he just wants to be another one of the guys, then he should stop letting the cameras be all around him."

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. Undrafted = free agent, but a 7th round pick is stuck with whatever team picks him. Which is better?

Of course, if he had gone undrafted the media would have freaked out about it.

It is a tough problem, because it appears he was drafted where many expected him. Yesssssss . . . some felt not so much that he is gay but the media circus and distraction may have hurt him. After the third round, couches and general managers are looking for bargains--"would be good if not for that injury/mass-murder/desecration"--and it does not take much to knock you off a board at that level. He also, apparently, had a bad combine which made many question whether he could play in the NFL.

The Aforementioned Pats Dudes during the off-season prior to the draft considered whether or not the Pats would try him. All of them noted he has major hurdles at his position for a team that is trying to mature its defense. Big strike. However, Belichick--and Kraft--have zero interest in a player who is about himself--particularly at that ability. Belichick would not tolerate any "media circus." So Sam would have had a choice: shut the fuck up and limit his responses to "I-am-concentrating-on-being-a-better-player-focusing-on-the-team-we-are-playing-quite-a-thing-it-is-to-live-in-fear" or be gone. Period.

Some predicted that there wouldn't be a "media circus".

I guess we'll see if they can do this in a way that doesn't become a distraction. I'm skeptical.

On the other hand, reality TV shows invading NFL lockers rooms isn't totally unprecedented, is it?
Hard Knocks is a reality sports documentary television series produced by NFL Films and HBO.[1] The show was first broadcast in 2001, and the current 2013 season is the eighth. Each season, it follows a National Football League (NFL) team through its training camp and covers the team's preparation for the upcoming football season.

The series shows the personal and professional lives of the players, coaches and staff, including their family life, position battles, and even inside jokes and pranks. It particularly focuses on rookies' adjustments to playing in the NFL, usually with emphasis on the team's most recent top draft pick. It usually also chooses to focus on undrafted and journeyman players who are attempting to make the team.

The NFL and HBO have called Hard Knocks "the first sports-based reality series" in television history.[2][3]
If that's not too much of a distraction, why is this?

It is a distraction. See how wonderful the Jets and Dolphin seasons went.

But this is not a "Hard Knocks" series but an exploration of one player's experience. That does not fly too well.

Actually, that was the best Jets season in a while (11-5). In fact, looking at the list of the teams and their records, you get a mixed bag. No one won the Super Bowl, but some teams went deep into playoffs. I am not sure we can draw a conclusion that the show is a distraction.

Save they destroyed their QB. I believe that was a definite distraction. It may be an argument to silence in a way, but the "Better Teams" do not do it. There is a reason teams that finish in the playoffs can opt out of it.

Now the show is not the only reason the teams FAIL'd, but it certainly contributed to the loss of confidence in Mark Sanchez.

James Randi came out at 81 and said he was gay. All along he has been telling his audience he was a skeptic. If he was less skeptical he would have come out sooner, much sooner. The same applies to all you skeptics out there.
Michael Sam did not say God I am a bitch, he said NFL I am gay.

Skeptics start out doubting everything and finally their own sexuality. Just as gays start out doubting their sexuality and finally everything else. It is a natural progression. Skeptics to gays and gays to skeptics.

I am not sure I would describe Dungee as a bigot or a hypocrite. He could certainly be, but I am not certain that he is.

Some coaches just want to get good players to coach and they do not want any media or internal distractions. Maybe Dungee just doesn't want to deal with the media, so why draft a player that would be certain to invite such an attention? I don't know, I just don't see it as a black and white issue.

Yeah, I decided to exercise a rare moment of brevity.

Dungiee(e) has supported felons like Michael Vick. Whatever you think of Michael Vick now, to forgive a torturer of animals but condemn someone being who he is is hypocritical. However, more to the point:
In a recent appearance on the HBO series Costas Now, Colts coach Tony Dungy showed his true colors.

Dungy, a devout Christian, was initially asked if he'd have a problem with having a Muslim, Jew, or atheist on his team.

Dungy immediately answered no. He doesn’t proselytize to his players, he said.

Costas followed up with the same question about an openly gay player.

And Dungy paused.

He actually paused and crossed his arms—in obvious discomfort—before responding with canned blather about letting the player know what he thinks, and what the Bible says.

Bleacher Report
Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy will be the honored guest of the Indiana Family Institute at the group's "Friends of the Family Banquet" in March. The organization, among other things, fights the right of same-sex couples to marry and the right of gay people to adopt children in Indiana.
. . . .
IFI is affiliated with Focus on the Family, a rabidly anti-gay organization that has made it its mission to oppose gay marriage rights, among other issues of gay equality. Focus on the Family hosts a conference series called Love Won Out, which asserts that gay people can be "cured" of being gay. Among the group's online initiatives is No Moo Lies, which claims that, because dogs can't moo like a cow, people aren't supposed to be gay.

Bleacher Report
CARMEL, Ind. -- Colts coach Tony Dungy said he knows some people would prefer him to steer clear of the gay marriage debate, but he used a speech Tuesday night to clearly stake out his position.

Dungy told more than 700 people at the Indiana Family Institute's banquet that he agrees with that organization's position supporting a constitutional amendment that defines marriage as between one man and one woman.

And St. Timothy was actually a Heisman winner. So Sam's argument that he should be in the NFL because he was SEC defensive player of the year has to be considered in that context. He's not the only college player with awards like that who couldn't hack it in the pros.

For what it is worth, prior to the NFL Draft the Pats Dudes I listened to would go over the draft, reviewing players, all of that. This is the period of "nothing is happening" so they have nothing else to do. I never saw Sam play--and I do not pretend the competence to evaluate such for the NFL. So I am vomiting what I heard.

Now while these guys get inundated with the Ridiculous--"trade picks to get Johnny Manzel! Trade Brady for Peyton Manning as his back up! :excited: "--most tend to be serious, and this seemed to many as a "pick Belichick might do" during the 6th and 7th round.

Their bottom-line assessment was he was about a 6th round player. Very limited playing the outside. Did not show any talent for anything is. This, in their opinion, sank him as a possibility for His Billness and many other teams. For His Billness, a player who can do many things--like play on Special Teams--is "value." They believe, and I agree, that what finally sank Tebow was his unwillingness/inability to do anything like that.

When Sam came out with the concept of Oprah show and all of that? Well, see my previous posts. That may have dropped him a level but remember if you are a bottom-feeder to begin with ANYTHING that makes a team raise an eyebrow will lead to them looking at someone else.

Despite some claims to the contrary, he did not shine in the Rams.

So, as you suggest, he is just not that good.
