Re: Humans Need Not Apply
The military is producing AI assisted drones, capable of stealth flight, that can silently carry or deliver 2000 or 3000 pounds of pretty much anything, rockets, other drones, munitions, guns, lasers, ammunition, flame throwers, mines, fire bombs, troops, anything, and anyone can fly them, no training needed, and they can do g-force shit that would kill a human pilot. They can also fly themselves.
They could also just be the bomb, kamikaze style, but they cost a shit ton of money, so flying one into a aircraft carrier at wave top level at 500 mph, loaded with armor piercing bombs, which would sink any ship, might still be worth it.
Oh, and I'm not talking about just "your" military. Everybody is getting in on it. Big money. Way big money.
Humans need not apply.

Of course they are also working hard on the drone killing drones, and the killer drone killing drones, as well as anti drone weapons, because the really small drones are the big threat. Humans definitely need not apply. We also don't accept dragonflies, murder hornets or cockroaches.

I like sleeping and drinking and doing drugs, not (just) because of a "death drive", but (also) because I'm curious what I can experience when my cognitive system isn't glued to reality like it is in a sober waking state. Feels limiting, like a channel lock

Re: Humans Need Not Apply
Which is why "artificial intelligence" always remains a misnomer. While it’s funny to imagine a team of Marines using Metal Gear Solid’s cardboard box strategy to defeat what’s likely a very expensive robot, the incident detailed in Scharre’s book fortifies something we already know: AI is only as useful as the data we give it. Similar to the way AI becomes biased once it’s fed biased data, algorithms can be as ignorant as their foundational data is flat. Without being shown what a somersaulting human or a human under a box looks like in action, a robot won’t be able to discern that image from all the surrounding noise, no matter how skilled its engineers are.

Slate has an advice column called Dear Prudence.
This week they decided to give their regular advice columnist the week off and let ChatGPT field the questions:

The result seems to be adequate, although the letter was a softball.

Models such as Stable Diffusion are trained on copyrighted, trademarked, private, and sensitive images.
Yet, our new paper shows that diffusion models memorize images from their training data and emit them at generation time.
