Roku now has their own streaming channel. Free!
https://blog.roku.com/the-roku-channel-free-on-web
NOT-commericial free but pretty limited. Not a terrible lineup either.

Lister approves.

Re: Cord Cutting, Cord Running
I feel like a shit for not posting this early yesterday but
Cyber Monday Hulu deal: Basic service for just $1.99 per month for one year.
I signed up. I was getting it previously as one of my kids logged on to someone else's account and it was 'just there'. I didn't question it. Then about two months ago that certain someone must have changed the password or something. I didn't much care as I didn't watch it that much. But at 1.99/mo, it is certainly worth that.

I'm happy to pay so long as I think the price is reasonable and the process is easy. If they make me jump through hoops, then I'll use my own hoops, which are free.

I love Plex. Instead of spending hours trying to configure my computer to stream to my television, or stringing HDMI cables across the room, now I can spend hours trying to get file names exactly right so that they appear in the catalog correctly.

But the latter is downright fun. Even though plex is pretty forgiving about the format of file names and such, I became quite pedantic about getting the folder and file names perfectly concise and consistent across my entire library. I even went so far as to install a file manager dedicated to that exact purpose.

Re: Cord Cutting, Cord Running
Well, I will now!
Update on my channels.
OTA: NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, PBS, ION, and other lesser channels like Quest and Justice.
PLEX: nothing much new. I have little motivation to get content there given my choices.
Streaming:
Netfix (my account)
Amazon (my account)
HBO (piggybacking off Son 1*)
Disney (piggybacking off Son 2*)
Hulu (piggybacking off Son 3*) ((eta: oops, I'm paying for that too on a special deal)
Sundry others that are free, such as the Roku Channel, Newsey, etc.
This is TV fucking utopia is what it is.
* It is good to have sons.

Re: Cord Cutting, Cord Running
Me personally? OTA I watch the morning news everyday, usually the local ABC affiliate. I watch the Justice network pretty often, or let it play in the background while doing other stuff. Same with Quest. I pretty much spend equal afternoon time between netflix, amazon and hulu. I sometimes watch PBS but I can stream that through the roku. Disney is new so all I'm watching there now is Mandalorian series, which is surprisingly good so far. When the wife gets home, she likes CBS news. She's a sucker for game shows too. She likes Fox too.
I'd say pretty much most of it over a given month. My total cost, minus my internet connection which I have to have anyway for sanity, is 14 for netflix and 10 for amazon, so 24 total, which is one forth of what I paid for cable with 100 times the content. We all share everything so think of it as 5 streaming channels split 5 ways. It's a fucking deal. Oh, I also pay for hulu now so add 2/mo to my cost.
I guess the point is, there is always something greatly adequate if not awesome, ready to watch at the click of a few remote buttons. The only downsides are 1) finding the awesome, and 2) the bar for awesome pretty high these days. I'm tellin' ya, TV-fucking-utopia.
Interestingly, I don't watch network news at all. It could be why I'm mostly absent from the majority of the discussions here.
And hey! I don't think you're mean. I just think you're happy with your narrow horizons watching gay porn videos 24 hours a day and think everyone else should be as well, and that's fine. :)

Losing OTA channels. Better antenna plans are in the works. I'll be following this guy closely.
:)
You're probably thinking, 'This has gotta be Poe.'
Truth is, I don't know.

Needs a paper-roll adding machine.
When I worked tech support at an audit firm, one of the staff there had been with the firm for ages. She still kept an adding machine on her desk that was standard issue way back when.
