Bluesy music.
I stumbled across this a while ago - thought I'd share. Well, I like it, anyway.

Re: Bluesy music.
Thanks for the post, I'm always interested by nice music. I'll say this:
He's good, but not outstanding. Going up and down the blues scale with the right hand and throwing in some chords – even diminished ones – with the left isen't that difficult.
(And we could have a whole rant about "young white well-fed and carefree male" playing the blues' clothes, but I won't get entrapped into that bog…)
But mostly my point is that with such a thin scaffold that music definitely needs a voice. Here's one, nothing fancy; if you're interested there's a lot of weird blues piano out there.

You know her from:

here she solo pianos:

she is playing the "theme" from the series Cowboy Bebop--it shows up in a number of songs and is the basis of the entire series.

Thanks AA for that. I didn't realise the song was so old. Here's another version......Abdul Alhazred wrote:As promised.Abdul Alhazred wrote:Thanks.bindeweede wrote:I stumbled across this a while ago - thought I'd share. Well, I like it, anyway.
I'll look up something for you tonight.
You probably already know the song, but ...

You're correct about the basic twelve bar blues progression being a thin scaffold, Witness but that is its great strength; it's accessible and very versatile.Witness wrote:Thanks for the post, I'm always interested by nice music. I'll say this:

Some, like (the to me, wonderful) Captain Beefheart took it to barely recognisable extremes at times. He did, however garner some respect from the "real" bluesmen.
It's all good to me. :)

Strange video, that. All those white people watching from literally the other side of the tracks. That must have been purposeful.Witness wrote:Depends on the criteria applied; anyway silky-smooth blondies really aren't my cup of tea. 8)Doctor X wrote:

Re: Bluesy music.
Some people tell me that this is bluesy. I don't know, seems a stretch to me, like not quite the right beat for blues. The full thing will be out in the summer.

Says it way better than I could have!asthmatic camel wrote:Well, I suppose it has twelve bars in it somewhere...
@AA, AC & AN: woulden't have imagined that, nevar (for the audience segregation in the video). And those cunts were still inefficient: black notes remained mingled with white notes, he!
OK, dropped in because I "stumbled upon" a pleasant boogie piano vid (just noticed they're both whiteys – that PC? ):

Of course! A perfect form for a lot of things, notably improvisation. But I meant the OP pianist's production on that canvas. Sorry if my comment was ambiguous.asthmatic camel wrote:You're correct about the basic twelve bar blues progression being a thin scaffold, Witness but that is its great strength; it's accessible and very versatile.
Agree. Imagine the Emirates drinking booze – we woulden't have a decent wine or scotch left for our parched palates. So you keep the blondes, I'll content myself with the rest. :wink:Doctor X wrote:Not one to . . . judge another's . . . preferences . . .

Re: Bluesy music.
Weeellll… "purity" can be extended to some rather ghastly extremes… (Just pulling your leg, AC, I know what you mean.)asthmatic camel wrote:Keepin' it pure...
Harmonica: excellent. Voice: needs a lot more smoking & drinking – to attain something like Howlin Wolf's, which I find akin to the sound of crushing glass. Guitar: rudimentary. And listening with some attention, I wonder if it has not been overdubbed. (Do we have a resident sound engineer?)
OK, I'll take the counter point: impure blues.
Let's start with (*shudder*) electric (rythm&)blues… by a chick… by a Serbian chick!…

She's a nice axe shredder, as the younger generations say. And I like the way she interacts with her musicians, especially the drummer (who displays the ridiculous hat most musicians are now compelled to wear, I hate to notice).
Then I'll make things worse with another lady, specially for our numerous NBL connoisseurs:

Notice the pleasant fingerwork on the guitar. The fingerwork on the guitar. The fingerwork! Look at the fretboard!!!
I would have liked to conclude with Sugar Pie Desanto singing Slip-in mules from the Folk Blues Festival of the sixties, but the vid seems to have been removed from yootoobe. (Her Chess record remains there, but is definitely inferior.)
It's the lady in the background, amidst all the blues brass:

OK, we'll settle with Rock me baby:

Re: Bluesy music.
I don't see overdubbing in that clip, Witness, the harp playing looks spot on to me.
Anyways, here's Sugar Blue, one of, if not the, best electric harp players ever giving it some with Muddy Waters' classic, Hoochie Coochie Man. That boy has iron lungs.

And there's the vast subject of "dirty blues".
An example from Youtube, where you can find a lot, mostly archeological:

But for, ahem… historical reasons, my preference goes to this LP:
