There is a very famous proverb that says that a crowned head becomes wiser. But we see it is not true. A bull does not become king just by entering the palace, but the palace becomes a barn.

My son woke up in the middle of the night with a BAD stomach ache. He’s tellin everyone it felt like having a baby. Twins to be exact, he said. My daughter said “havin a baby is way more extreme.” He said, “well, i thought i was gonna die as a kid!” She said, “that’s reasonable”

Does the US have oligarchs?

I was reading this article about maybe sanctioning Russian Oligarchs, and wondered Is Russia the only country with oligarchs?
https://www.newsweek.com/russian-oligar ... ne-1674337

Are people like Warren Buffet, Belinda Gates, and Sheldon Adelson oligarchs?

Johnny Lawrence: This is Devon Lee, our new female champion.

Devon Lee: Hi. My pronouns are "she/her."

Lawrence: The only pronouns we accept in this dōjō are "sensei" and "student."

Lee: Those are nouns.

Lawrence: Oh, I'm sorry. I think what I meant to say, is "QUIET!"

Lee: That's an imperative.

Lawrence: Get in line!

So I had a friend over to watch the super bowl.

"You know," I said, "you can tell a lot about a person by looking at their microwave. Beyond just the basics of how pricey it is or how much it is used, the way it is cleaned tells you things."

My friend Kendra (for that was her name) merely gave me an aloof look of disbelief. In her defense, she has known me a while, so it is understandable.

"Really." I assured her. "If they never clean it and you see baked on grease, etc., you know to avoid them."

She immediately headed to the kitchen. I should have foreseen that, but I was on my 3rd old-fashioned and was too relaxed. "You don't want to do that-" I began.

She opened the door. "It's . . .clean," she said. She turned to me with a questioning look "I mean, spotless."

"Yes," I said, spreading out the tarp. "Now you know I am a complete psychopath, and I can't let you leave. Would you mind stepping on this?" I motioned at the tarp, "I just vacuumed."

"Why is there no doorknob on the front door?" She demanded, her voice rising.

"Yes. That is another thing you weren't supposed to look at. Not really your day at all."

War isn't such a great idea when you think about it critically, except for arms manufacturers and their stockholders in Congress.

If they want eternal war, well and good; we accept the issue, and will dispossess them and put our friends in their place. I know thousands and millions of good people who at simple notice would come to North Alabama and accept the elegant houses and plantations there. If the people of Huntsville think different, let them persist in war three years longer, and then they will not be consulted. Three years ago by a little reflection and patience they could have had a hundred years of peace and prosperity, but they preferred war; very well. Last year they could have saved their slaves, but now it is too late.

All the powers of earth cannot restore to them their slaves, any more than their dead grandfathers. Next year their lands will be taken, for in war we can take them, and rightfully, too, and in another year they may beg in vain for their lives. A people who will persevere in war beyond a certain limit ought to know the consequences. Many, many peoples with less pertinacity have been wiped out of national existence.

Since the very moment humankind first grasped the abstract concept of time, every single person has been told the story of the farmer who had a dog. This tale has become so deeply ingrained in humanity’s mind, however, that a very large discrepancy has gone totally unnoticed. Indeed, from the ancient text it is known that this farmer had a dog, but the lyric, “and Bingo was his name-o” does not explicitly state who this “Bingo” truly was.
In an effort to find out, I have scoured the seven continents and spoken with police agencies, traveling shamans, motorbike gangs and even a Yorkshire Terrier who claims to be a descendent of … the dog. My travels have left me with countless, irreparable wounds—physical, mental and spiritual. I ask myself, “Was it worth it?” Tonight, it became worth it.
I sit up, mouth agape and knees shaking. In my hand is the last piece to the labyrinth of a puzzle that I have spent years assembling on my desk. It’s a snippet of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, but backwards and every fourth letter is the thumbs-up emoji. I gently place it in its spot and my mind instantly collapses upon itself; a single tear glides down my face. Bingo’s true form has finally revealed itself to me … We are ALL Bingo.

Yet I ended up being head of my neighborhood association and had to work with the wives of our neighborhood in all kinds of exercises. I pleaded with them not to excel. "If you are best, we'll have to go all over and show ourselves as examples," I said. I also begged them not to come out on the bottom, because then we'd be singled out for criticism. "Where should we be?" they asked me. "Oh, I don't know, maybe third from the bottom would be safest," I answered. That's my philosophy. To excel might be a good thing in the abstract, but in wartime, to stand out brings nothing good."

But we're in such a sort of childish cultural space at the moment, and such an individualistic, um, space at the moment. That many historians, and many non-historians sort of dipping their toes in the water, think that history is all about them. And that the practice of history is about going around and telling people off for not having lived up to an ideal moral standard. And that that is really the most important thing that a historian or somebody engaging in history can do. And it's pathetic.

ENNEAPHOBIA is the fear of the number 9. It is common in Japan, where ‘nine’ and ‘pain’ can be homophones, and among composers, many of whom have died after writing their 9th symphonies. To avoid the curse, Philip Glass completed his 10th symphony before his 9th had premiered.

I would suggest that most composers will die sometime after composing their 9th.
