Stranger Things

Post by Doctor X »

Any series that begins with a scientist and a child being eaten deserves attention.

Well cast children--THE CHILDREN--particularly the geeky, nerdy types. That Girl from That Boring Goodfellas Director's Film of Yet Another Boring Henry James Book Staring Abraham Lincoln and The Girl from Grease II, That Guy Who Gets Screamed at by R. Lee Ermey, and an Oh That Guy Playing the Sheriff.

Or as one Boston Sports Dude/Comedian interviewing one of the People Involved put it: "It's what the new X-Files was suppose to be. Fuck Roger." [Citation needed.--Ed.]

Nyarl will say "Check it out!"

I want another season, but at the same time, I don't want them to continue the same story line. Needs a different angle.

Loved the toothless kid. I wonder if he had whatever disorder he mentioned in real life where his adult teeth still hadn't grown in at pre-teen age.

They also nailed every 80s horror movie trope, and I've seen them all. Right down to the ridiculously negligent parents. Could you hide a girl in your parent's basement for a month without them noticing today? Hell no. Could you do it in the 80s? Absolutely. Very nicely done. :guitar:

One minor point. If the movie had really been made in the 80s, Winona Rider would have been bitch-slapped at least once. Both the character and the actress. :snapout:

1. There will be . . . a Chosen One another season.

2. The actor has that congenital condition.

All of the decor, the houses, the hair styles, the clothes, everything was meticulously done to put you back into the early 80s. I think that gave me the creeps more than anything. There were things that I had long forgotten. Hell, they even found the Advanced D&D books that I used to play with my friends, and those were vintage in 1991 when I played.

Kevin Pollack's Chat Show interviewed The Sheriff. Hilarious without spoilers for the next season. One thing I can post which is not a spoiler for this last season is his hat:

http://goseetalk.com/wp-content/uploads ... Things.jpg

The actor chose it. The producers hated the concept. He fought for it. Now it is an essential part of the character.

The next Stranger Things is going to be political.
“We are united, in that we are all human beings and we are all together on this horrible, painful, joyous, exciting, and mysterious ride that is being alive. Now, as we act in the continuing narrative of Stranger Things, we 1983 Midwesterners will repel bullies,” Harbour said, bringing down the house as the crowd rose for a standing ovation. “We will shelter freaks and outcasts — those who have no hope. We will get past the lies. We will hunt monsters. And when we are at a loss amidst the hypocrisy and casual violence of certain individuals and institutions, we will, as per Chief Jim Hopper, punch some people in the face when they seek to destroy the meek and the disenfranchised and the marginalized. And we will do it all with soul, with heart, and with joy. We thank you for this responsibility.”

Second episode is even better!! :D

I like the way it ends too, you'll probably want to watch the credits and not just let Netflix skip immediately to the next episode.

I KNEW the doctor looked familiar, but I couldn't place him. There are so many other actors that vanished after the 80s. I'll be looking for more. :hyper:

How the hell did Sean Astin land a make-out scene with Winona Rider? Must have been a life-long dream come true. He's really let himself go after LOTR. Looks like a potato.

Eleven is back. Can you believe it? How? How could this possibly be? It's as if the producers held a gun to the writers heads and said find a way to bring her back, and give her a ratty 80's style mop of tangled curly hair, and teach her how to speak english or I'll fire at you.

Oh, the painstaking details they went through to re-create 1984! My brain was having a Nostalgia mellt-down. The cars, the mustaches on the copes and teacher, the clothes, the drab style of the houses and buildings, the phones, holy shit they even had the fucking horrible arcade game Dragon's Lair. I hated that stupid game. It was the first arcade game that took dollar bills as I recall.

And then I wake up to this:
Stranger Things' British star Charlie Heaton is deported from US over 'cocaine bust' at LA Airport leaving his career in the hit show hanging in the balance

But who did not want to land Winona, even when she was stealing clothes and baying at the Moon?

Samwise.

He was also the leader of the Goonies.

Not long after the Goonies, Winona Ryder was kicking off her career in Bettlejuice
