Amazon Blows Entire $1 Billion 'Rings Of Power' Budget On Making It Look Like A Woman Can Hold A Sword

CULVER CITY, CA – After filming only 8 episodes of The Rings of Power, Amazon has exhausted the entire $1 billion budget allotted for the production of the show. Initial reports indicate that most of the money was spent on special effects to make it look like a woman can hold a sword.

"These kinds of effects are a challenge because as everyone knows, women absolutely suck at holding swords," said visual effects supervisor Brad Gragdrad. "Their tiny little noodly arms and 120-pound frames are barely able to hoist a sword above their heads, much less swing it around and cut through foes like a male warrior. Sad!"

Sources say it took a visual effects crew of 380 people over 15 months to make it look like Galadriel, the strong female lead of the show, was actually a battle-hardened warrior able to hold up a heavy steel blade and swing it with ease.

When asked what else the budget was spent on, insiders confirmed the rest was spent on trying to find ways to make Galadriel a likable character. "Unfortunately," said Gragdrad, "They ran out of money before we could figure that part out."

There's nothing likable about Galadriel, and it's not all about special effects. They wrote and directed her character to be obsessed with revenge and genocidal towards the orcs (no, Uruk. "Orc" is a hurtful racial slur). She also manipulates individuals, political leaders, and entire nations into joining her bloodlust. Not at all inspiring or characteristic of a high elf.

At the end of this week's episode, I found myself rooting for the Uruk. Is that wrong? :notsure:

I stopped watching the episodes when I decided that the Harfeet were simply more cruel and evil than Sauron would ever be, but I have seen clips from the last couple of episodes, and you are not wrong.

G specifically told the "villain" that she was going to kill the ones he cared about in front of him but keep him alive to suffer through it when regular threats and torture looked unlikely to get her what she wanted. She is a terrorist at this point.

She and the Harfeet deserve each other; I actually wish harm upon them all. I am Team Orc.

Better episodes of both Game of hot Dragonblood and the Rings of destiny. In the former, apart from the King being as dumb as fuck, it's getting better.

All she had to do was 20 mins of Elven laments and he would have spilled everything.

OMG. That would explain everything. The haughty cruelness, the arrogance, the indifference to the suffering of the people under her . . . .

Maybe the harfeet are Sauron, too.

Maybe we are viewing this the wrong way.

Maybe they are doing a ‘cobra Kai’ type show.

Kreece was banished after the first conflict, leaving his lieutenant Johnny without power or purpose. Then the action picks up in the next age, from Johnny’s POV, showing the heroes as jerks.

Plain good old storytelling and action. Very good (particularly compared to what most western media serves up nowadays)

Takashi Miike?

Does anyone anally rape a dead woman?

I enjoyed Ichi the Killer but vowed to never again with Visitor Q. Another poster has a similar vow after seeing Audition. At least that one had an infamously awesome Japanese Original actor.

Much preferred Murakami's book. Visitor Q was just an exercise in voyeuristic "look how shocking we can be you're gonna love it!" Didn't.

Interesting. When Miike did not actually show the results of a disembowelment in the opening scene, I gathered it was different than his usual fare.

Has a lot of Japanese "That Guys" in it. This includes That Guy who always plays a villain in Kitano films.

Does have a "Yeah . . . Fuck Him" villain with zero redeeming qualities.

A female motivational speaker!

Who ever said Japan was not progressive?

– J.D.

P.S. It is a flawed production. It is your basic "brought together band on a mission" where we only get to know maybe three of them, and even then not at all well. Oh and they pick up The Random Street Rat Dude [Found in a mountain. – Ed.] SHHH! who is an "expert" at "something."

Because swinging a rock widely around in a sling will not at all get you cut and stabbed into pieces when you are in a crowd of pissed-off samurai.

Though there are "200 enemy!" "200! NOT 70?!!11!" the enemy obliges by predominately attacking one at a time.

You then construct an intricate murder trap that covers an entire village, without any protest from said villagers, presumably with their help since, "samurai," in . . . like . . . a day? We know they worked hard because all we see is the samurai pounding fence posts randomly in the village.

Fine.

You then give up the "high ground." You were raining arrows and explosives. That Guy from That Film About Japan's "Longest Day" where the Emperor is STILL Totes for Peace All the Time Never for War or Raping Manchuria Goodness No orders that all will die . . . so he does not just keep raining arrows and explosives on them?

Oh, but to face them honorably!

You are thirteen assassins . . . with explosives . . . and death traps . . . honor was left at home banging the staff long ago.

Why not a, "Hey, Idiots. That Guy there? He's a cunt. You know he's a cunt. Why not, I don't know, help him trip and fall on those stakes while trying to rescue him with your swords? This is official but it's officially not happening so, officially, you were all admiring sakura while he choked to death on someone's dick. But none of yours."?

Still, so far no dead chicks anally raped.

No dads hiring their daughters as prostitutes.

No one saying "inconceivable."

Downfall: The Case Against Boeing

on Netflix. About how Boeing made a plane that flew itself into the ground. Twice.

No, not because the pilots were furriners.
