I liked the first episode, but should have been a movie rather than a series. There are indeed lulz to be had, but also dead horses to be beaten.

A bit brutal. Can't wait until the lead character gets whacked. Or maybe he did get whacked and this is all a nightmare he's having in his final moments, I dunno.

Peacemaker
I was not expecting to like it, but I made it through the first episode and it wasn't completely terrible. By the last episode of the first season, I was really enjoying it.
They were playing music that I haven't heard since high school.
The last episode was quite epic, but a few things happened in the final scene that threw me.

Ozark became tedious--kept hoping for everyone to get whacked. So we're now watching The Witcher. Seems worthy. Figured out the various out-of-order chronology at least.

Re: What have you been watching lately
I watched the first season of Ozark. Too dark for my taste. I realized I wasn't enjoying it. Didn't have enough of an emotional connection to any of the characters to care.
Breaking Bad was better. Better Call Saul, too.

The Witcher is fun.
Fwiw, it doesn’t evoke medieval times. It is like modern California in a Wiccan mud pit.

No, not Wayne's World.
No, not John Wayne, or Bruce Wayne, or John Wayne Gace. Not even Wayne Wayne from that shitty TV show my kids used to watch....nevermind.

Re: What have you been watching lately
Few things, lately.
Inspector Lewis: Plocie procedural, takes place in Oxford. Pretty well acted. Occasional Deus ex machina. Has enough episodes to binge. Sequel to Inspector Morse.
Killing Eve: pretty fun. I really have a soft spot for psychotic, murderous chicks. Think Alice Morgan.
Gadget Man with Steven Fry and later Richard Ayode. Lighter than air.

Also watching 3 Stooges videos on YouTube. Seeing Shemp in drag is not in my bucket list but there it was.

Re: What have you been watching lately
I'm about 1/3rd through season 2. It's about a 13 year old boy who was raised in a cult, and he doesn't understand social norms outside of his cult. He also has no concept of what is moral/ethical/legal
in the outside world.
We've already been through 2 rounds of "she's not the real mother" and we don't know who the real father is, but the boy looks Jewish, and they love to zoom in on his frightened and bewildered face. Every time they do, I can't help thinking....

They took it...........the tip of penis.........tore it right off with................teeth.
It's ok, Julian. It's called a Brisk, and it's part of your culture. A Rabbi removes the foreskin from your penis when you're a baby. It's normal.

.......but..........this was yesterday........and it was my mother.
Jack, put out and APB. We're gonna find this sick psychotic bitch.

Re: What have you been watching lately
New show on HBO-Max Tokyo Vice, based on a book by the same name. Based on true story of the author (Jake Adelstein) moving from America to Japan and working for a Tokyo newspaper as a crime reporter. Very interesting look into life in Japan in the 1990's but particularly focused on the "underworld", Yakuza, and such. I understand it deviated a little from the book but seems realistic enough and well done so far.

It is a very interesting book. He makes some 面白い claims that I will not spoil. The claims against a particular yakuza boss are true.

Re: What have you been watching lately
I tried to watch Death on the Nile but it was a play masquerading as movie determined to make you sad, for no particular reason.
There was also no sense of historical detail. While the below scene is pliable in the 1937 (the year this movie is set in) it would be unlikely in a London club/restaurant.
The scenes that are set on the steamer are better set, and perhaps Covid played a role, but no one forced them to release this movie. It's just meh.

Agatha Christie is a miss for me in general.
Though I did quite like the Asimov detective stories he tried to write in Christie style.

Well, we had one during the signing of the Declaration of Independence which explained why you lot are all a bunch of sodomites.

I was referring to the: electric guitars, stage flood lights, and the 'EXIT' sign.

Gibson were selling electric guitars in 1937 in the UK.Grammatron wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:25 am I was referring to the: electric guitars, stage flood lights, and the 'EXIT' sign.
Electric exit signs were common in pre-war UK cinemas and clubs.
Stage lighting? Your google-fu is weak.
Sidney Poitier still winning and you missed the most obvious.
Woman with electric guitar? 1937. Does not know her limits.

Re: What have you been watching lately
Yes I agreed that all those things existed in 1937 London, I just doubt it was all in one club, like that, in London. It felt inauthentic.
