Re: Other music
You're showing your age! The original was by Charlie McCoy and called "Stone Fox Chase." :)

Always thought Area Code 615 was the Japanese original. There ya go.asthmatic camel wrote: ↑Sat Dec 25, 2021 11:26 pmYou're showing your age! The original was by Charlie McCoy and called "Stone Fox Chase." :)
I only remember Bob Harris from much later repeats and the Fast Show parody.

Re: Other music
Charlie McCoy played with Area Code 615, so you're correct. He was the harmonica player and composed the song.

Re: Other music
I just watched a YouTube tutorial on how to play it. You need at least four harmonicas* because the song keeps changing key, and almost all the notes are 'draw': that is, the player has to suck, not blow.asthmatic camel wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 12:37 am Charlie McCoy played with Area Code 615, so you're correct. *I suppose you could play it on one chromatic harmonica, if you were skilled enough, but Charlie played it on regular diatonic mouth organs.
Area Code 615 was a group formed of individual session musicians, who all lived in the same (phone) area code. The dialling code was, you guessed it, 615.

Re: Other music
It's a bastard to play because of the key changes, (it's a bastard to play anyway!) You couldn't really do it on a chromatic: you can't "bend" the draw notes, (or bend the upper register notes by over-blowing), to get that bluesy sound.

Chromatics, of course, have their place. Have a listen to Brendan Power...ceptimus wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 1:10 amI just watched a YouTube tutorial on how to play it. Re: Other music
Hard to fathom how such a badly recorded, badly produced track got released at all.
Non-interesting factoid #471. Chas Jankel's sister and early music video pioneer Annabel, was a co-creator of Max Headroom.

Quite a fascinating, gifted man, though. As I recall, he had a huge cult following back in the day.

Re: Other music
This song hit No2 in the UK charts for The Stranglers in 1982, their highest ever hit. All the DJs raved about it thinking it was about NBLs. Things changed a bit when they discovered it was about heroin. :D

Interesting fusion of East and West, old and new:
Tinna Tinh is a Vietnamese singer and actress of Czech and Vietnamese descent.
The visuals in this video are pretty stunning. Recommend full screen.

Re: Other music
So do I.
Have to work out those Bonham triplets since drummers cannot actually read, let alone write, music.
