I take it that's a Hunger Games reference.
One of those movies I never did get around to watching yet. Should I? Apparently it's on Netflix.

The first one is ok. Not nearly as good as the Japanese original.

So apparently Mikaela Shiffirin is a cousin of my girlfriend's boss. So I have to go to an Olympics watching party Tuesday night and pretend that I don't already know the results of whatever race she's in as we watch the pre-recorded event. At least it's in a bar.

Are there dusky, raven-haired maidens dressed in lycra involved?

The Olympics aren't what they used to be when I was a lad.

NBC analyst relieved from Olympic coverage for offending Koreans
Presuming to speak on behalf of "every Korean" is probably not a good idea. Doubly ironic that he was there as an "Asia expert" to inform viewers about the host country.NBC Sports analyst Joshua Cooper Ramo has been relieved from its PyeongChang Olympic coverage after enraging many Koreans with ignorant remarks about their country.
An NBC Sports spokesperson, who refused to be named, told The Korea Times Sunday that Ramo has been removed from the role.
. . .
Ramo angered Koreans here and overseas by saying during the opening ceremony on Friday, "Every Korean will tell you that Japan is a cultural and technological and economic example that has been so important to their own transformation."
NBC apologized for the comment.
"NBC issued an apology in a written letter to the PyeongChang Organizing Committee, and on air, regarding the comments made by one of our presenters during our coverage of the opening ceremony," the official said. "NBC has great respect and admiration for South Korea and its people."
The official explained that NBC hired Ramo "to serve as an Asia expert during the opening ceremony. His role was to give an overview to our viewers of the host country and this region of the world."

Which is a surprise since only two years ago he announced that "Every Pole will tell you that Russia is a cultural and technological and economic example that has been so important to their own transformation." He then famously covered a celebration in South Africa where he observed: "Every South African will tell you that apartheid is a cultural and technological and economic example that has been so important to their own transformation."Anaxagoras wrote:Ramo angered Koreans here and overseas by saying during the opening ceremony on Friday, "Every Korean will tell you that Japan is a cultural and technological and economic example that has been so important to their own transformation."
Reporting last year during a reenactment of the March on Selma, he offered, "Every black will tell you that Jim Crow is a cultural and technological and economic example that has been so important to their own transformation."
Apparently he has been shifted to Israel as an expert on Israeli and Palestinian relationships, and NBC hopes he can highlight "the cultural and technological and economic example" Nazi Germany served which has been so important to their own transformation.

Note to announcers of venues involving music. We don't watch this for your commentary, do that later, shut the fuck up.
I say this as I did extensive announcing and playing music on (a rather odd sporting event) them boys (mostly) would have cut me balls off had I started talking in the middle.
This is a version of sporting event(not me)

Once again, shut the fuck up. If it involves music I'm pretty sure your voice over was not planned for in their routine. Yeah I know they can't hear it but I can. We have this thing where we can let one review stuff that happened a few seconds/minutes before.. USE IT!.
Petty rant over.

I have long ago muted Sport Dudes commenting. It proves a distraction. In some ways, it is not their fault since they "have to" promote things. On a rewatching, I can listen to the few tidbits of insight.

Kinda liked the second one better. Some one note characters showed more substance.Grammatron wrote:The first one is ok. Not nearly as good as the Japanese original.
By the third one, the franchise was suffering from what happens if you think about some movie premises for too long, it starts to come apart. But I still kinda liked it.

Re: The Winter Olympics is Off to an Auspicious Start
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-46205694Calgary votes against Winter Olympics bid
Residents in the Canadian city of Calgary have voted strongly against bidding to host the 2026 Winter Olympics.
More than 56% of voters rejected the idea amid a high turnout.
The Calgary vote leaves the Swedish capital Stockholm and an Italian bid involving Milan and Cortina D'Ampezzo as the only candidates left.
Interest in hosting the summer and winter Olympics has fallen as the cost of staging the events has increased.
[…]
Which other cities have pulled out?
The Swiss city of Sion, Sapporo in Japan and Graz in Austria all withdrew from bidding for the 2026 Games earlier this year. Erzurum in Turkey has been eliminated from the bidding process by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Four European cities - Oslo in Norway, Lviv in Ukraine, Krakow in Poland and Stockholm in Sweden - also withdrew bids to host the 2022 Winter Olympics. Public opinion in Norway was reportedly divided after the cost of the 2014 Games in Russia's Sochi was put at $51bn (£31bn).
That left only Almaty in Kazakhstan and the eventual winner, the Chinese capital Beijing.

Who does he think she is? An American sprinter? British Cyclist? Turkish weightlifter? Evil Russian cheats.
Feel sorry for her, probably was the packets of powder or Dad goes to the Gulag.
Just had a thought, In the Modern Pentatholon, in the horse bit, the competitors draw lots to see what horse they get. This literally turns an Olympic event into a lottery and it is totally unfair except when it happens to that animal abusing naz Germany crybaby woman and the British girl gets a sensible horse and wins. So.. why not get the athletes to draw lots for what event they compete in? Imagine it! It'll be awesome and totally watchable for the first time since 1956.
I'm fed up with watching the Japanese loser fall over in the skating after failing a triple camel toe.

Shes innocent!
Eh, no she isn't. But....she's allowed to compete in the individual competition.
Why?
1/ She's 15. And it's not fair.
2/ The test in question took place in December and people are a "little but confused" why the results "appeared" 5 minutes after the Russian won he team event.
3/ Not allowing her to compete and giving her a suspension could do irreparable harm to a 15 year old as its mildly possible she might get called a cheat on twitter or something. Woman up girl!
