I've really been enjoying the latest season of this podcast. Learning about a lot of obscure topics. This Malcolm Gladwell fellow has a lot of interesting ideas and perspectives. The thing I like most about it is, the vast majority of it is about things I've never heard about before, or had only the slightest knowledge of.
Like the latest episode is about Freud and Elvis Presley.
Did you know that Sammy Davis Jr. Supported John f Kennedy before he supported Nixon?
But Kennedy disinvited Davis from visiting him at the White House because, can you guess why?
Spoiler:
Sammy's wife was white. This was actually once controversial. Too controversial for JFK. Nixon on the other hand was a good friend of him, invited him to the White House, told them to treat Sammy as the VIP he was. And he remembered that.
I remember when Sammy married Mai Britt. I guess it was scandalous but in my home it was sorta a shoulder shrug, more like "you know those Hollywood types" than "MISCEGENATION!!!"
Sammy was an interesting guy, his auto-bio is a good read "Yes I Can".
