Downplaying dangers of COVID-19, taking research out of context are common strategies, experts say

As more regions across the country adopt mandatory masking policies in an effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19, some anti-masking groups are joining forces with anti-vaccination proponents and adopting their techniques to spread misinformation and amplify their message.
The similarities between organized anti-masking and anti-vaccine movements are striking, said Maya Goldenberg, an associate professor of philosophy at the University of Guelph specializing in vaccine hesitancy.
At least one anti-masking group, Hugs Over Masks, actively partners with Vaccine Choice Canada, one of the country's most prominent anti-vaccination organizations.
Vladislav Sobolev, the anti-masking group's founder, has repeatedly praised the anti-vaccination group on social media and during protests.
Sobolev also told CBC News that high-profile U.S. anti-vaccination advocate Sherri Tenpenny, an osteopath who wrote Saying No To Vaccines, is providing online leadership training to his group.
Tenpenny, along with other anti-vaccination advocates in the U.S. and Canada, have embraced the anti-masking cause and opposed COVID-19 lockdown measures.

German: Judenstern (~ star-of-the-Jew(s))
French: Étoile jaune (Yellow star)
Wikipedia sayeth Yellow badge / Yellow patch / Jewish badge (but not Jew badge nor Yellow star).
Books use Yellow star, but that can be literary:

It's unclear what exactly you mean by "historically correct translation": used in the US at the time? (Then we need a source.) Consensus among professional historians? (Ditto.)
Note that I'm open to learning, just not convinced yet.

Yeah.
Vitamin K is obviously not a vaccine; however, it is necessary for the coagulation pathways.

The anti-vaxxers claim the pandemic is “false” and connect it to the Gates Foundation and 5G technology.
A group of anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers have filed an $11 million lawsuit against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam among others for their response to the coronavirus.
As first reported by the CBC, the suit, spearheaded by the anti-vaccination group Vaccine Choice Canada, claims the pandemic regulations violate Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms, such as the right of association and the right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure.
In a press release, Ted Kuntz, the president of Vaccine Choice Canada, called the pandemic “exaggerated and dishonest,” used to “justify the systematic violation of the rights and freedoms that form the basis of our society.”
He said because of the regulations, “millions of citizens have been indiscriminately restricted to their homes,” “children are no longer being appropriately educated and socialized,” and “Parliament and the courts have been effectively shut down.”
The lawsuit has a long list of defendants. Besides Trudeau and Canada’s top doctor, it also includes Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Toronto Mayor John Tory, and the CBC, Canada’s national broadcaster.
...
The 190-page statement of claim also includes a “COVID-19 timeline” heavily focused on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a favourite target of anti-vaxxers because of the foundation's focus on vaccine development. The suit also mentions the Event 201 conspiracy, which implies the foundation planned the pandemic, as well as "smart phone-readable nanocrystals called 'quantum dots,' embedded in the skin using microneedles” that would work as a “vaccine chip.” The lawsuit does not explain the connection to the coronavirus other than a vague reference to contact tracing apps.
The suit also claims that a 2010 report by the Rockefeller Foundation studied a future pandemic scenario “where an unknown virus escapes Wuhan, China, and a 'hypothetical' scenario on what the appropriate response would be,” and that this “scripted” scenario is what has unfolded during the “COVID-19 so-called ‘pandemic.’”
The lawsuit also brings up 5G technology, saying that on March 26, Microsoft announced it was acquiring "Affirmed Networks" focused on 5G and "edge" computing. It gives no explanation as to how this connects to the coronavirus.

One hopes the defendants refer the anti-vaxxers to the reply given in the case of Arkell v. Pressdram.Witness wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 12:54 amhttps://www.vice.com/amp/en_us/article/ ... c-responseAnti-Vaxxers Launch $11M Lawsuit Against Canada Over Pandemic Response

Anti-vaccine group sues Facebook, claims fact-checking is “censorship”
A notorious anti-vaccine group spearheaded by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. filed suit today in federal court in California alleging that Facebook's fact-checking program for false scientific or medical misinformation violates its constitutional rights.
Children's Health Defense claims in its suit (PDF) that Facebook, its CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and the organizations Science Feedback, Poynter, and PolitiFact acted "jointly or in concert with federal government agencies" to infringe on CHD's First and Fifth Amendment rights. The suit also alleges Facebook and the fact-checking organizations colluded to commit wire fraud by "clearing the field" of anti-vaccine ads.
Facebook has "insidious conflicts with the pharmaceutical industry and its captive health agencies," CHD claimed in a press release. "Facebook currently censors Children’s Health Defense’s page, targeting its purge against factual information about vaccines, 5G and public health agencies."
"This is an important First Amendment case testing the boundaries of government authority to openly censor unwanted critiques of government policies and pharmaceutical and telecom products on privately owned internet platforms," Kennedy added in a written statement.
Facebook’s biggest anti-vaxxer
Kennedy, through CHD and an affiliated group called the World Mercury Project, was responsible for more than half of anti-vaccine advertisements on Facebook when they were permitted, researchers found last year. That ended in 2019 amid a measles outbreak, when Facebook updated its policies following pressure from the Centers for Disease Control and lawmakers.

https://calmatters.org/health/2020/09/c ... xemptions/Medical board slams California doctor for exempting kids from school vaccinations
For years, Dr. Tara Zandvliet was known as the go-to doctor for so-called “medical exemptions” for parents unwilling to give their children the immunizations required to attend school in California. The San Diego pediatrician said she wrote about 1,000 vaccine exemptions between 2016 and 2019, according to the California medical board.
Now the state agency overseeing physicians has banned Zandvliet from writing any more of those controversial exemptions and placed her on three years of probation for gross negligence and unprofessional conduct.
And under a California law that took effect Jan. 1, every one of those 1,000 exemptions are now invalidated. Parents likely will either have to vaccinate their children before they return to school in person, get a conditional acceptance from the school, or homeschool their children unless they can find a doctor who will grant a legitimate medical exemption.
Medical vaccine exemptions are intended to be exceedingly rare and mostly temporary. Doctors typically only grant them for children who are undergoing chemotherapy, have allergies to specific vaccine ingredients or who live with certain immune disorders.
By contrast, Zandvliet wrote exemptions based on children’s allergies and other reasons not supported by clinical guidelines, the medical board charged.

I got my flu shot today and I got my second injection of Shingrix. Looking forward to a weekend of feeling like crap.
Will accept that instead of developing shingles later.

The man who shot to Internet fame several years ago after appearing on TODAY to discuss a condition that permanently turned his skin a deep blue has died.
Paul Karason was 62 when he passed away Monday in a Washington hospital, where he was admitted last week after suffering a heart attack. He also had pneumonia and later suffered a severe stroke, his estranged wife, Jo Anna Karason, said Tuesday.
A cause of death was not immediately known, but Paul Karason had suffered heart problems for years, she said.
Karason started turning blue about 15 years ago after he began using a special silver-based preparation to treat a skin condition. He also had been drinking colloidal silver, a product consisting of silver particles suspended in liquid.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/worl ... 19944.html for the rest. How anti-vaxxers have rebranded in the coronavirus era: ‘Our bodies are ours, not for someone else to govern'
Vaccine opponents have long been undergoing a rebranding effort to shift their messaging toward the promotion of civil liberties
https://i.imgur.com/bzeRc8q.jpg
Years before this year's anti-mask and reopening demonstrations, vaccine opponents were working on reinventing their image around a rallying cry of civil liberties and medical freedom
Now, boosted by the pandemic and the political climate, their rebranding is appealing to a different subset of society invested in civil liberties — and, some health officials say, undercutting public health efforts during a critical moment for vaccines.
A new analysis from several institutions has found that between 2009 to 2019, conversations around civil liberties in the anti-vaccine community had increased, with Facebook pages framing vaccines as an issue of values and civil rights.
Researchers reviewed over 200 Facebook pages supporting vaccine refusal for their paper published in the American Journal of Public Health this month. David A. Broniatowski, the paper's lead author, said current protests against government lockdowns and masks took their pages directly from the anti-vaccine playbook.
“We could’ve seen it coming,” said Broniatowski, an associate professor at George Washington University's School of Engineering and Applied Science. “This was all happening right under our noses, and it’s continuing to happen.”
