Not much happens in that book. Should make for a...movie.

In my opinion things happen in subsequent books; but those things were not compelling.

In the first book, humans get to the alien ship, walk around, and leave. It may be visually interesting, and Villanuve has an eye for scale and sci-fi. I just think the movie will be very dry otherwise.

The only thing I can say in favor of rendezvous with Rama is that there was a sequel which was worse.

It was so bad. (The sequel)

There was a scene where a Japanese criminal was trying to impose his will on the Japanese person theoretically in charge… so he dressed up as a samurai lord… and it worked. The Japanese guy had to keep reminding himself “he is NOT my daimyo!” .

Note: modern Japanese people… not some medieval deal. Just nuts.

To be fair, the samurai, and daimyo, were only recently abolished, just a few decades prior to WWI.

Yeah. But if some gangster dressed up as Abraham Lincoln, would you be psychologically cowed by it?

Must admit I found that entire scene stupid.

Sort of went downhill from there.

Turns out there was a big hotel with a swimming pool and everything on the other side of the big sand pile.

No one had ever looked.

The tv show just added the Arby's because they sold out for the advertising. The original book just had a small sandwich shop ran by the hotel.

"We have the meats" was NOT the actual killing words, either.

I don't understand. I didn't see an Arby's anywhere in that shot.
