I think the real issue is not whether the theory that a leak caused the pandemic is ultimately true, but that any exploration of it, evidence for it, or opinions pointing out issues was declared a debunked: (1) crazy right-wing conspiracy theory; (2) racist dog whistle; or (3) a racist dog whistle right-wing conspiracy. And that based on that, they silenced any questions - while blatantly lying about things like gain of function research and previous serious security and containment issues at the same lab. Tied into that is the complete lack of trannsparency from China and the WHO (not to mention the CDC).

As with the mask data, the efficacy of the new treatments, and the usefulness of providing the new "vaccines" to 5-year olds.

I may not know all of the data, but I know which narrative helped the officials do as they wished and what facts would be politically useful to them -- and sadly, the entire scientific regime has become so politicized that very little of what they say can be trusted on a variety of topics.

It's a shame we can't get them all to agree on the best sort of study to carry out, and agree in advance to accept the results - whether or not those results agree with their preconceived beliefs.

This could drag on for years. It would be nice to know definitively how effective masks are, and therefore know how much money and effort should be put into promoting the use of them.
