A good primer for absolute beginners was posted on the YouTube channel explainingcomputers.com last week.
Chris Barnett releases a new video every Sunday, and his most recent one was a HTML primer. If you read this after April 19 then it will be his previous one.

Father-in-law has his website hosted by AT&T. Ye gods, what a pain in the ass to manage. Won't allow me to install an SSL certificate in a civilized way. SFTP won't work. Their web-based file manager sucks. Everything about their hosting sucks.
