An interesting Schutzen Pistol

Post by ed »

I ecently bought this thing. Another Schutzen Pistol, that is a specialized target pistol for the 54.68 yard target event. That is that you shoot a target having a 10 ring of 50mm (I have to break down on this one). But seriously, thats 1/2 inch. At 50 yards +/-

The pistols are all .22 with iron sights. You have to shoot 60 rounds one handed and you have two hours to do it. Aside from that, anything goes. That is why the even'st firearms are referred to as "free pistols".

Naturally the thing was popular in Germany and they excelled at the creation of purpose built pisols for the event.

I bought it largely because of the inscription.

The bank is still in existence

You can't shoot modern high velocity ammo in these things. Or so I am told. I would not take the chance, breaking it would be sad.

Souvenir. Lots of people collect that kind of stuff, which makes for some cash for the organizers.

In Basel it's the yearly Fasnachts Plakette which you can then proudly wear at your lapel to show your support:

Of course all these trinkets get pricey with time: https://www.biddr.com/auctions/ams/brow ... 8&l=112721.

And it's Schützenpistole, not Schutzen Pistol.

Well give me a toga and call me Jesus
RUDOLSTADT BIRD SHOOTING
AUGUST 20-29, 2021
... The event is rounded off by popular rifle customs - such as the eponymous shooting at a wooden bird -

So, presumably, the pistol was presented as a prize by the bank at the 1925 do.

Excellent. Thank you Witness.

This is why I like to collect things, less the thing than the stuff around it.

Now I will figure out who won the thing in 1925!!!

Hmmmm ... so the medal might have commemorated the do in toto rather than a shooting event per se.
