It already happened in the Southern Hemisphere winter (austral winter), and it’s already happened in the northern hemisphere as well this year

Zero pediatric deaths so far

Unheard of, historic even

There were so few flu cases in the austral winter that they don’t know what strains there are to vaccinate against this year, so the vaccine is a guess this boreal winter

Because I spend a lot of time looking at numbers and data, I noticed something, and I have not found anyone talking about it anywhere.

Using the seasonal graphs, it is obvious, at least once I tell you what it is.

I've been watching this season, compared to the last 10 years of seasonal data. But I noticed the end of last years season (2019-2020), it already had started, and it show up in a huge way in the data.

I don't actually know. But the seasonal flu is always a killer. the 2017-2018 season was really bad, with 85,000 flu deaths, compared to the usual 35,000 or so

(they don't actually have the real numbers, it's all models and such)

That was my first thought. Still, if Wung Flu is more contagious than the bog-standard version and tends to only kill coffin-dodgers, (which the other doesn't,) what are the octohats reasons for saying so?

There actually are articles about this, flu is a big deal for the elderly each year

It’s hard to believe, but there are no accurate figures for flu cases or flu deaths each year

And this is a disease that has killed between 60 to 100 million people since 1957

When it showed up from China in 1957

A different version showed up from Hong Kong in 1967

Don’t take my word for it. It was called the Asian flu or the Hong Kong flu

Both strains are the ones still killing over a million people each year, but as they say, it’s all estimates

The only Death Stats are pediatric deaths, of which there are still none, very unusual

Public health labs pretty much only test if you have the flu, to try and determine the proportion of circulating viruses that belong to each influenza subtype/lineage.

In 2018 they did 772 tests week 49
with positive specimens = 207

2020 they did 16,550 test week 49

It's not just the incredibly low positive numbers, which means official cases of the flu, it's the huge number of test being done.

Week 50 data coming up

In the past, by week 50, the official positive test numbers are from 800 to 8000 (this is not the number of flu cases, this is the Clinical Laboratories numbers, used to see if numbers are going up or down, the actual cases is way higher)

Anyone want to bet on this years numbers? I bet 8
