What's your artifact doing in Boss Kean's ditch?

German (surprise!!). .22LR (or so they say). 11" barrel, single shot. Barrel tilts down (like a double barrel shotgun) for loading. Used for the 54.68 Yd. free pistol competition.

I have gotten interested in these things and have a few of them now.

Front sight guard is buggered, not a prob.

It's funny, these things are so heavy that you don't even know they fire. The set trigger probably is set at a couple of grams. You really have to think as you handle one of these things.
A double set trigger achieves the same result, but uses two triggers: one sets the trigger and the other fires the weapon. Double set triggers can be further classified by phase.[5] A double set, single phase trigger can only be operated by first pulling the set trigger, and then pulling the firing trigger. A double set, double phase trigger can be operated as a standard trigger if the set trigger is not pulled, or as a set trigger by first pulling the set trigger. Double set, double phase triggers offer the versatility of both a standard trigger and a set trigger.

I won't know what it is (or even the caliber) until I have it in my hands.

There is also something called a "Release Trigger" which fires the gun when you release it AFTER depressing it. Massively dangerous, IMHO. Never saw on in person.

Nope. 'Tis a thing of beauty. It's seen some use, been knocked about a bit and remains, to those with an interest in such things, simply gorgeous.

I demand video evidences of you firing it.

FYI an old fashioned single pole shotgun also loads the same way

Plus this bit of tangentially-related historical conjecture:
